A small-town girl and a big-city boy find their fates intersecting on the Sunset Strip, riding a wave of romance through the height of the "hair metal" scene as the off-Broadway musical rocks its way to the big screen courtesy of choreographer-turned-director Adam Shankman (A Walk to Remember, Hairspray). Arriving in Hollywood with stars in her eyes, Sherrie (Julianne Hough) meets Drew (Diego Boneta), and together they plunge headlong into the local rock scene. Meanwhile, as Sherrie struggles to stay afloat in a churning sea of rock 'n' roll excess, she gets swept off her feet by audacious rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, and Bryan Cranston co-star in a movie featuring music by Journey, Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Joan Jett, and REO Speedwagon. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie was depressingly awful! Very sad to have all those great actors for a D- movie.

I liked the music and I love Julianne Hough, so I enjoyed the movie. I must say I thought Tom Cruise was pretty awful. Overall I enjoyed it enough to watch it more than once.

LOL I usually reserve a 5 star rating for films of redeeming social value told in a new and different way. But this one gets a 5-star for entertainment value. It is irreverent. It's not for children and teens. Language may turn some adults away. I thought it was a good spoof and a fun film.

I grew up in the 80's Rock Era. It was a time of Good Ol Rock n Roll. I'm not big into musicals, but figured with music like that I would enjoy it. Personally, I felt it was Beyond Lame, an embarassment to Tom Cruise, and very poorly written.

First off, to all the haters, and anyone who hasn't watched this movie, this is a musical movie people! Do your homework and actually read the synopsis or at least watch the trailer before you hate on it. Now my opinion, I absolutely loved this movie. It's based on the Rock of Ages Broadway smash hit. I love Rock music and the movie had great actors too. Tom Cruise was of course awesome as the Rock Legend Stacee Jax, but Julianne Hough and Degio Boneta were great too. Great supporting roles from Alec Baldwin and others. I was singing through the whole movie and it put a big smile on face. It's not a deep, emotional, brilliant "story line" type movie. It's just a great feel good and fun movie with great music. I highly recommend it if you like those types of movies and love the hair metal legends like Journey, Foreigner, Def Leppard, and the list goes on and on and on and on!!

Most attempts at rock musicals frankly fall short both in story and musically. Rock of Ages is the exception I've been waiting for since Jesus Christ Superstar and Tommy..... Well acted, great character development, and musically great as well as innovative. Most of the dialogue is actually done with songs and medleys from the 80's and 90's and is very effective. Don't miss this one! Ignore the critics, relax and get ready for a real feel good movie!

80s music rocks, hence the movie was good. Great singing and dancing..story was irrelevant.

In the same genre as Mama Mia, Burlesque and Hairspray, this one stars Tom Cruise and emphasizes Rock and Roll. I found it as insipid as the others except that Burlesque had the good fortune to showcase the amazingly talented Christina Aguilera and I actually thought Hairspray was entertaining. However, as ridiculous as Tom Cruise comes across in this movie,he apparently did his own singing and I must say that his voice "rocks".He has a very nice singing voice.
