The strict reaper rules take a backseat to moving souls quickly and enjoying an existence without consequence when George and her colleagues get a new boss in this feature continuation of the cancelled television series Dead Like Me. There's a new boss in town, and that means a whole new way of operating for George and her fellow reapers. At first it seems like a blessing to see the rules relaxed a bit, but before long the gang discovers that death can be just as complicated as life. Now, while George's friends are all seduced by the allure of success, money, and fame, she makes the mistake of revealing her true identity to her living family. Whoever said death was easy, anyway? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Without Mandy Patinken this movie just doesnt cut it. Also, they've changed styles completely, what's with the comic book look all of a sudden? What happened to George she get a makeover? And who's this new girl?? It was really really disappointing. If you liked the series do not watch the movie. It'll ruin it for you.
If you are not familiar with the TV series DLM, you might get a bit lost at first. My suggestion is to watch the series on disk or on Hulu first then rent this dvd
Even though the subject matter is somewhat macabre it is often handled in an offhand comedic fashion that soon grows on you. You soon find the odd characters becoming familiar and endearing. Ellen Muth does the narration which often added insight into no only what Georgia was all about but often encapsulated the show in a short closing monologue. The movie picks up where the show left off. It was still great to be able to step back into the world of the Reapers. And that is all you can really say about the straight to DVD - if you liked the show and want more....get the movie.
This was a great twist on the original. It is clear that the original cast enjoyed recapping their roles and the one replacement did a great job of recreating the character. The one missing character, 'Rube', provided the plot of the story by his absense. In my opinion a recap of how each of the gang became reapers in a way explains why they are reapers. I think the movie explains what they need to do to get out of the job.
