A Marine platoon fights to prevent the city of Los Angeles from being overtaken by a race of highly advanced alien invaders in this epic sci-fi action thriller from director Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) and producer Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, Fast & Furious). After decades of speculation about life on other planets, the people of Earth discover that extraterrestrials really do exist when destruction rains down from the stars on cities all across the globe. When the alien warships descend upon Los Angeles, however, the ferocious invaders discover that humankind won't go down without a fight as a gruff Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his fearless troop of jarheads point their weapons skyward and make one last stand for the entire human race. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
I believe this is how invasion movies should be done. It was simple and full of stories and heroes. The attack was first reported as being meteors but soon it was discovered the landings were soldiers from another planet coming to harvest our resources and they are not taking prisoners. Everyone must die and the Earth is way behind in technology. However the Aliens have misjudged the human spirit to survive and pull together.
I was very surprised by the pace of the movie once the pretense of a plot was put in place. I likened it to Independence Day mostly but thoroughly enjoyed the mostly 2 hours of action and effects. I have a new favorite movie line right now and it's, "We've already had breakfast". Classic.
GREAT movie! Very entertaining. Took my 10 yr old son expecting to cover his eyes/ears, but to my delight the language was mild and there were no inappropriate scenes. This movie was well worth the price of the ticket and popcorn!
Now this is what you call an action movie! Action, action, action! Great lines that gave you chills! Heart tugging moments. Not too many, just the right about to make you feel like a human and not just a killing machine. And s c r e w Roger Ebert's Thumb's Down! He can stick that thumb right up his b u t t! I'm going to sock him in his jaw. That's right, I'm going to his house, pulling his jaw out of his dresser and punching it! Hoorah!!!!
Director, Jonathon Liebesman, has absolutely no concept of character development. There are way too many characters with way too little screen time before the fighting starts. Otherwise dramatic scenes fell flat because you couldn't care about the characters. If you just want to see a CGI over-load, it's great. If you want to watch a good alien invasion movie, go rent Independence Day or Mars Attacks .
This movie was NOT all that good! I almost fell asleep through most of it. The storyline was a little silly. There was a lot of action in it, but some of the dialogue was just laughable. It's up to you if you want to see this one in theaters. It's one of those movies were some will like it and others will not. I however, did not. Everything in this movie has been done before. Nothing original.
Great movie, kept me enthralled pretty much throughout. Good characters, nice that they gave you a feel for most of the guys in the group, rather than just a bunch of one dimensional acting. Good action sequences and some good special effects. I found it an interesting take on the aliens and their battlebot kinda thing, it kept breaking down and they were scrambling to get it aimed at the Marines and working... a different take than completely superior firepower and no weakness.
I wouldnt consider this a sci-fi film. It is more of a action movie who the enemies happen to be aliens. Very little is explained about the aliens and movie focuses more on character relations with each other; Even that came across as just ok. not enough character development. The cinematography and action scenes are pretty cool if thats just what your looking for. But there are tons of other movies that do it much better. would not recommend.
