Zardoz (1973)
Member Rating:
A resident of 23rd-century Earth becomes involved in a revolution after discovering the hidden truth about society's rulers in director John Boorman's sci-fi drama. Sean Connery plays Zed, the central rebel, who begins the film as a member of the Exterminators, a band of skilled assassins who exact a reign of terror over the lesser Brutals. The Exterminators answer only to their god, a gigantic stone image known as Zardoz. Haunted by doubt about Zardoz's true divinity, Zed chooses to investigate. His disbelief is confirmed when the god proves to be a fraudulent tool of the Eternals, a secret society of brilliant immortals who pretend to divinity in order to exploit the masses. Knowing the truth, Zed sets out to reveal the hoax and destroy the Eternals' unjust rule. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

Well, this is probably one of the strangest movies I have seen in a while. Kind of interesting but wouldn't want to repeat the experience. See it once if you are out of other options.

In the land of the eternals where men are no longer able to achieve erection Zed is king. He arrives in a floating head and is immediately introduced as a man beast to the immortals. Meanwhile the executioners are preparing a raid of the eternals utopia. Zed is becoming a messiah of sorts and plans on freeing the eternals from their deathlust........ This movie is righteous! I strongly recommend watching it and then preparing an outfit much like Zed's to don to your 9-5 work day...

This is a very strange movie, definitely adult material.

Interesting, inventive storyline. But, you do get exposed to everything wrong with the '70's -- weird fashions, free love, interpretive dance.

Prepare to feel under-medicated when watching this film. Young Sean Connery shirtless throughout is the high point.

i like john boorman and sean connery but this is a stinker of a flick. avoid it at all costs. they mix drugs, love making, mythology, revolution, socialist comments, etc. and it all comes out a mess. i am a connery fan but this is embarrassing to watch. spend your hard-earned money elsewhere.

This very odd “must see” takes you to a world within a world. Citizens of a giant glass bubble struggle with eternal youth, immortality and god-like existace; while those outside of the bubble live a prehistoric-like jungle existence. Inside, the only spirituality stems from an ancient text known as “zardoz” (a tattered copy of The Wizard of Oz). Outside a stone idle comes to life and spews rifles. The outsiders crash into the bubble as the immortals stand in line chanting “Kill me next!” A very fake psycodelic drug party, really bad acting and a tagline “the penis is evil - it shoots life!” complete this truly awful film. It should be a cult classic, but I must be a cult of one. It is one of my all time favorites.

This was a terrible movie. If I were Sean Connery I would disavow all knowledge of this movie.

Then you'll love this movie. It's a great Sci-Fi fantasy from the era of Logan's Run, 2001: A Space Oddesy...etc...the story line is such a twist that it reminds one of Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End". It's got a lot for the ladies that love to see a young Sean Connery running around in almost nothing!! Mmmm baby!! If you like to have your mind tickled as much as your eyes then it's good, but if you're only into graphics and not acting (i.e. most of the movies made from 2000 and on...Matrix and so forth) then well, you may be in for a shocking disappointment. This is more for the thinking men and women :)
