This romantic drama concerns two star-crossed lovers who are half-brother and sister to each other. Catherine (Anna Calder-Marshall) is the daughter of the lord of the manor who falls for the brooding stable boy Heathcliff (Timothy Dalton). When Heathcliff leaves to seek his fortune, he returns to find Catherine has married the local magistrate Edgar (Ian Ogilvy). The story is told by the beautiful blonde servant girl Nellie (Judy Cornwell), who narrates at the beginning to set the stage for the picture. Hindley (Julian Glover) is Catherine's older brother who tries to take over the house and land after the death of their father (Harry Andrews). When his own wife and child dies, a drunken Hindley gambles away the family holdings to the opportunistic Heathcliffe. Filmed in England, the scenery is spectacular but this version lacks the foreboding, shadowy drama of the 1939 original starring Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

The movie was not like the book and I thought it made Healthcliff seem crazy.

I saw this movie in 8th grade and loved the music and Timothy Dalton. It doesn't follow the book exactly, but enough to give you the idea. The filming is also excellent.

I recomment this movie. Everyone did an excellent job of acting--especially Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff. There were a few confusing points in the movie, but they kept the atmosphere and feel of the book.

Always a favorite. Tragic but good.

I cannot visualize Heathcliffe as anyone other than Timothy Dalton since the first time I saw this version in the 70's. I now own a copy of the movie.

I've read the book Wuthering Heights and I loved it. Although this movie doesn't follow the book exactly, it's still a very good movie. I loved Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff! This movie version of the book is better than others because it shows the passion between Heathcliff and Cathy much more realistically than other versions. Even though it's slightly different, it's still has that 'gothic feel' to it just like in the book. A 'must watch' for all Bronte fans!

If I my memory serves me correctly, Heathcliff was an orphan boy brought in by Catherine's father. They were not half brother and sister, which would involve incest. I don't believe this movie portrays that they were. It has been a long time since i have seen this one.I like the original with Lionel Barrymore.

I was very disappointed in this film. There are parts that are exactly like the book but most of it is completely inaccurate. For example, the movie ends when Cathy dies. That is only half way through the book. It's just the set up for all of Heathcliff's revenge. Also they have him die right after Cathy. He goes on to live almost 20 more years...to torture Cathy's daughter, his own son, and Hindley's son (who isn't dead like the movie claims). Terrible! It should have been longer and told the whole story. Maybe Wuthering Heights just can't be made into a movie without disappointing anyone who loves the book. Final note, acting was just mediocre.
