Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan star in director Mike Leigh's seriocomedy concerning an eternally optimistic teacher living and working in North London. Thirty-year-old teacher Poppy (Hawkins) always has a smile on her face, and does her best to brighten the days of those around her by making small talk and cracking jokes. For the past ten years, Poppy has lived with her best friend, Zoe (Alexis Zegerman), a fellow teacher whose wry outlook on life serves as the perfect counterbalance to Poppy's effervescent charm. One day, Poppy decides that it's time to take driving lessons and enrolls in the Axle School of Motoring. Almost instantly, Poppy and her stressed-out instructor, Scott (Eddie Marsan), clash. Still, it seems that there's more to this relationship than surface appearances would suggest. After accompanying her colleague Heather (Sylvestra Le Touzel) to a dance class taught by a particularly passionate instructor (Karina Fernandaz), Poppy connects with kindly school social worker Tim (Samuel Roukin). Of course, Tim can't help but fall for a woman of such boundless compassion, but how will Poppy's increasingly jealous driving instructor react to the news of her most recent romance? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Unlike many other reviewers who ejected this movie after 5-10 minutes, I actually watched it in its entirety. Two hours of my life I'll never get back. If all you care about is performances, this movie was great. Superb acting by most. Those of us who spend money to be ENTERTAINED (it is the entertainment industry, right?) or who at least like a plot would not enjoy this movie. No point, no plot, no story, no entertainment value.

This movie is histerical. I try to be a sarcastic optimist in my life, but "Poppy" is insane. I am a Driving instructor, and the scenes of "Poppy" learning to drive from "Scott" had me rolling on the floor in histerics.

I would not recommend this movie. After just 20 minutes I didn't care about the characters or where the story was going, so I sent it right back into the envelope it came to me in.

My wife and I could only take about 10 minutes of this. The thick accents made the dialogue difficult to follow, and it was tedious watching the crew crack each other up without making us want to laugh. In our case this was a wasted rental.

I did not like this movie. Did not like the story, did not think it was funny, did not think the acting was anything special. Would not recommend it

Sally Hawkins plays a very endearing and charming role. She is believable except for one scene where she encounters a homeless deranged man under secluded railroad tracks. The movie goes absolutely nowhere.

Pointless and annoying. Main character was supposed to be this happy- go- lucky woman who just appeared to be brainless and annoying. I was ready to eject after 5 minutes. Watched until the end and felt it was a complete waste of time.

This movie was soooo bad, I can't believe I rented it. What was I thinking? I had to turn it off after 20 minutes.

The accents did me in. I couldn't understand 1/2 of what was being said. I watch English commedy and films this was over the top for me. I gave up and never finished it.
