Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) might be dead, but his traps live on in this fifth Saw entry, which finds the series' production designer David Hackl at the helm for his debut directing gig. Costas Mandylor reprises his role as Hoffman, the detective whose involvement in the string of grisly murders turns out to be more than meets the eye. Picking up where the fourth entry left off, Hoffman is revealed to be a hidden accomplice in Jigsaw's grisly games of death, which look to be continued by the lawman. The plot bounces back and forth from the beginning of their relationship to the present, as Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) delves farther into the case. Also in the cast are Dexter's Julie Benz and One Missed Call's Meagan Good as victims of another one of Jigsaw's lessons in morality. If you don't like movie franchises or movies with a formula this movie is not for you. If you're like me and look forward to seeing how people are going to be disposed of in the next Saw movie it's definitely worth going to see. The killings definitely don't disappoint, but bombs in the rooms? I'm not too sure that was necessary. Ok, so it made sure the people moved to the next room, but it just seemed like such a gimmick that could have been more thought out. As usual, you get more back story about Jigsaw and who is going to carry on his legacy [remember: he's been dead since the third movie]. Saw V maintains that if you didn't see the previous installments you'll be virtually lost in the story. This is a great continuation of a well thought out series. This is not a stand-alone movie so go rent 1-4 before you spend your money on this one.

I'm a big fan of the Saw franchise. They are all really well thought out and tie together so well. They are smart and gory at the same time. Saw 5 is the weakest of the franchise, but still enjoyable. It feels like more of a victory lap. Saw 5 wraps up the series and ties up all the loose ends. The 5 people who are trapped in this film don't serve much of a purpose in the whole scheme of things and really only fill time while all the loose ends are tied up. It's also less tricky, you can easily tell the changes in time back and forth. There's only so much you can do when your main character died in the 3rd film, but it's a bloody wrap up. Fans will enjoy it, but if you've never seen a saw film, this isn't where you want to start the experience.

this was not the best saw movie of them all... the gre was good but the whole thing was a little confusing... but over all if your a saw or horror fan then definitly

First of all I want to say AAAAAAAAA !!! ok now that that has been said if you enjoy watching a movie through you fingers this is one for you. I suggest that you see all of the SAW movies because while they are horror films they do have some what of a story that is threaded through all of them and make it that much more fun to watch... enjoy.

In the Saw tradition, this is so gruelsome! Sometimes I feel it has to be a "sick" mind to write such gruelsome acts! Kept me wanting to see what happens next!!

Great story. It old how Jigsaw came to have his accomplice Hoffman. I'd highly recommend watching the previous ones first as this movie has many references to them. I loved how this movie captured the "follow the rules" structure of the original saw...

Lots of suspense, great ending, feels like a Saw movie...which is oftentimes the best thing you can say about a sequel. Continues the story in an appropriate fashion.
