Set up as though it were a true tale, this far-out Italian potboiler by Mario Garriazo (aka: "Roy Garrett") begins with the reminiscences of a London housewife and continues as a long series of flashbacks. Catherine (Elvire Audray) lives with her parents on a plantation on the Amazon River. On her 18th birthday, the family takes a trip upstream and are attacked by Native Americans. Her parents are killed by poisonous darts and Catherine is captured and then raised by an Amazonian jungle tribe. After some adjustment to this new life she ascertains that her aunt and uncle were the real killers of her parents. This discovery sets her off on a mission of revenge across the Atlantic and into another series of adventures. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Amazonia is a movie about a family murder for greed, survival in the amazon with half naked tribal people, and revenge. The movie is reminiscent of National Geographics Tribal documentary with a twist, a naked 18 year old white women. There are scences of a cheetah capturing and killing their prey in the wilderness. There are topless tribal ladies, which two females are pretty. The movie is graphic for the gore, violence, and rape scene. The movie is close to being rated X in my opinion. It's a good adult movie.

Was it a true story or not?!? After the parents are murdered and the daughter is revived why didn't she question where her Aunt and Uncle were in the other boat. Nothing is never mentioned about that. Ok movie to watch just once. The worm eating scene grossed me out! ~ Susan L.

Not as cheesy as I feared. Actually quite entertaining. Not incredibly graphic except for a few moments. A decent rent.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. It could have been gorier but I did like the story and set up. The fact that it was narrated made it engaging. The twist towards the end is well thought out and it's cool when Catherine gets her revenge. The music score obviously tries to mimic Riz Ortolani's from Cannibal Holocaust without making it exact but still good as it's just a lesser version of Ortolani's. Some scenes drag on but luckily the narration keeps the film going. Mario Gariazzo mostly makes use of master shots and the cinematograph is nothing special. This is one of the late cannibal films of the mid 80, which was the time when the genre began its decline. If you saw all of the Deodato and Lenzi cannibal films and are still thirsty for more check out Amazonia. This film also features special FX by Aldo Gasparri who did the special FX on Cannibal Holocaust but don't expect the same kind of gore.
