Woody Allen took a Japanese spy movie called Kagi No Kagi, and replaced its original dialogue with an entirely new plot. In its revised state, this film follows the adventures of agent Phil Moskowitz who is on a deadly mission to secure the recipe for the "world's greatest egg salad." However, Moskowitz, with the help of the beautiful Suki and Terri Yaki, must prevent this unique recipe from falling into the hands of the evil Shepherd Wong. The group Lovin' Spoonful recorded the majority of the songs for this film. ~ Iotis Erlewine, Rovi

Absurdity at it's best. Not so much a movie as someone playing a prank on you. If you're in on the joke, it's hilarious. If you've ever watched TV with the sound off and imagined funny things that the people are saying, well, this is the movie version of that. Totally hilarious. It will catch you off guard, always giving you the unexpected.

Many years before Mystery Science Theater 3000 popularized making fun of bad films to a whole new generation, Woody Allen had a field day completely re-dubbing this unintentionally silly Japanese spy film into a very intentionally silly comedy about the search for the recipe for the perfect egg salad. It has a few dry spells, and personally I thought the spliced in musical numbers by The Lovin' Spoonful were pretty embarrassing in a now dated attempt to make the film hip. But where it's funny, it is very, very funny. And not only are there a slew of choice new lines, but the voice talents are all excellent, really capturing the awful, stiff voice acting we all got used to hearing in cheaply dubbed imports. A one-of-a kind comedy, and worth checking out if you're in a silly mood, or are any sort of fan of Woody Allen's non-sequiters and wit.

One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It's not a typical Woody Allen movie and an absolutely hysterical concept. Check it out for no other reason than there is nothing else out there like it. American actors dubbing over a Japanese spy movie!!! It's great.

You can’t help but laugh at some of the dialogue in this Woody Allen concoction. It’s a rather ingenious concept, and Woody does an amazing job dubbing the dialogue. Funny and very original.

Watched this multiple times in the theater way back when. Just completely silly. I can still quote chunks of this today. Looking forward to sharing it with my teenage son when the DVD comes out. Warning: this was rated PG when first released, but there's a strip tease during the final credits that is not exactly child-appropriate.

I don't understand why this one has such a low rating. It's as funny as anything else Woody Allen's made.

I am a fan of MXC and other shows that take Japanese productons and insert funny American dialogue. However, this failed to elicit even a chuckle from me. I am guessing you need to be high to find this funny. I watched about 20 minutes before ejecting the disk and putting it back into the return envelope.

if you're high, there is nothing in this piece of drek to make you forgive Allen for wasting the few minutes you spend before yanking the disk from your player and fed-exing it back to Blockbuster. If I could travel back in time to erase disasters and prevent acts of evil, stopping this thing from being made would come no later than third on my list.

What were you thinking making this movie? I made it though 30 minutes. Woody isn't in it other than the first 3 minutes. Stay away.
