Once more, a wise-guy teenager tries to prove he's smarter than any adult-and nearly destroys the whole world in the process-in WarGames. Computer-game aficionado Matthew Broderick inadverently taps into a hush-hush Pentagon computer, then proceeds to inaugurate his favorite game, "Global Thermonuclear War". What we know, but Broderick doesn't, is that the Pentagon, hoping to eliminate the chancy "human element" in the event of an actual war, has given its computer total, irreversable control over the launching of nuclear weaponry. Broderick and government official Dabney Coleman race against time to reverse the computer's resolve to send bombers to Russia. WarGames scored a hit, especially with teenage filmgoers. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

...great then and now. Shows kids of today the Russian/US nuke threat we grew up under. Also introduced computer interest to all for the 1st time.

This movie was enthralling then and now. It's worth it to see Matthew Broderick. It's a great movie to show what it was like before the end of the Cold War. It's also a frightening commentary on the computer age. I love computers and don't know what I would do without this favorite means of communication, but I am not blind to how it can be used for good and bad.

This is a very good action movie without having any action scenes. All of the action in this movie is in the script and the concept of a teenager being able to hack into a military computer and almost starting WWIII. Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy are excellent in their lead roles. This movie has aged well; worth viewing a second time.

This is a very cute movie that shows us how inept the government still is today - and how important our decision-making abilities even if aided by computers is. I love this movie as much as 'Hackers'. It moves fast, has lots of drama and intrigue, just enough humor and sweet scenes, and makes us want Joshua to learn (wish we had a WOPR!!)

Story was good; the outdated technology was even better. Took me way back for a couple hours. The Phone Company, dot matrix printers, tape drives, monochrome monitors... man, do I feel old. Definitely worth a rent, though.

If you want to watch an 80s sci-fi film about a gifted computer gamer/hacker who falls into a far-fetched dilemma which threatens the fate of the human race, watch this film. This movie is entertaining without any irritating characteristics. John Badham earned my seal of approval.
