Vision Quest (1985) Reviews

Vision Quest (1985)
Member Rating:
According to high school wrestler Matthew Modine, a spiritual "Vision Quest" is necessary for him to decide his future. Thus, Modine starts behaving in a manner that amazes even himself. The crowning achievement of Modine's new outlook on life is his romance with 21-year-old artist Linda Fiorentino. Somehow, all of this boils down to the standard "underdog makes good at crucial sports event" finale. Essentially Rocky and Breaking Away redux, Vision Quest is saved by the spirited performances of its young protagonists. Of historical value is the brief appearance by Madonna, whose voice is heard throughout on the film's music track. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Though the reviews weren't great for this film everyone in thier late 30's to mid 40's has watched this film! It really is like alot of other movies, but Modine steps up and makes his character one to really root for throughout. I can remember the Madonna soundtrack, the muscle-bound enemy Modine has to take down (which in reality Modine wouldn't have a chance), even the quote by Fiorentino; "Hey Lowden. Kick his ass". All of it led to a pretty cool ending and a really good flic.....if you are into 80's movies lol

I liked this movie, as did my boyfriend, however, this movie is probably not as meaningful to anyone who has never wrestled. If you have ever wrestled, especially if you have ever cut weight, you will as least understand this movie. If not, I doubt its for you.

Classic sports movie about sacrifice and heart. To the other reviewer.... why wouldn't he have a chance to win in real life? The sport of wrestling is all about technique and cohones, and has very little to do with how much you can bench press.

This movies is pretty good the wrestling in it isn't as down to earth as the movie "Reversal" an independant film. However the overall plot is better it shows how determined someone can be if they want to win bad enough. Reversal is equally good if not a better film though I didn't like how it ends it makes a good story though.

Great 80s movie. Great 80s soundtrack. Great storyline. Authentic Spokane-vibe.

This movie almost deserves 5 stars based on the soundtrack alone. Madonna, REO Speedwagon, Berlin, Don Henley, John Waite, Sammy Hagar, Foreigner, Quarterflash...need I say more? Ok..JOURNEY throughout! What a great film. CLASSIC 80s. His nemesis "Shoot" even LOOKS Russian!

Just watched this for the first time in 2010. Picture perfect 80's movie if you want to get a feel for the 80's. Good soundtrack, although Madonna was used too many times. A bunch of young actors you might be more familiar with now.

This has to be one of the worst movies I have seen in years. I managed to get through 1/2 of it then had to turn it off. The acting was horrible - the story line was weak. What else can I say? Don't waste your money or time.

This is sicko NAMbLA SKANK! AVOID! Modine is a homosexual and the "girl" is actually a kouros girl, a man "reborn" in a girls body, although many koros girls -- Madonna, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Williams, Jamie Lee Curtis -- look like boys if you look closely. For some reason jews think wrestlers are homosexual, most likely because jews are so weak and diminutive. Here they pair a wrestler with a kouros girl, what the jews consider a step towards the wrestler becoming homosexual. AVOID!
