Vampire's Kiss (1989)

Vampire's Kiss follows the story of yuppie literary agent Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) as he descends into madness and vampirism. Loew believes he has been bitten by a vampire (Jennifer Beals) and is slowly becoming one himself, despite the contrary opinion of his therapist (Elizabeth Ashley). He then begins to wage a campaign of escalating terror against his secretary and first potential victim, Alva (Maria Conchita Alonso, looking appropriately baffled). Alva begs her parents to let her stay home from work to avoid her unusual boss, but they force her to go on that fateful day, and the plot unfolds. Vampire's Kiss became a cult item on the basis of Cage's outrageous performance: at one point he actually eats a live cockroach. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

Nick Cage plays a guy who's convinced he's becoming a vampire after being bitten by a woman he picks up in a bar, but in reality he's a guy losing his mind, or is he? He torments the hell of out his secretary as he starts cracking up more and more as the movie progresses. It's hilarious! This movie is off beat with a haunting music score and a strange kind of humor (kinda like 'Falling Down' with Michael Douglas). If you liked Falling Down, you will like this. Check it out.

this is written by the same guy who wrote 'after hours'. i wish he would wite more screenplays. cage's performance is weird and ill-advised yet hilarious. there are good twists to the plot. the main character is unsympathetic, but whatever. i enjoy a good cautionary tale to one of hope anyday.

20 years ago, Nicolas Cage made weird art-house movies that often made little sense, and this is one of them. Although I like the movie quite a lot for Cage's bizarre and often hilarious performance, I must admit I have no idea what the point of this movie is. Is it a horror movie? A comedy? A character study? Some kind of 80s anti-yuppie social commentary? Who knows? The scene where Cage is lurking in the dance club looking for his first victim while wearing his set of plastic teeth is sheer genius though.

Now I love Nicolas Cage, BUT this has to be his worst movie ever. Yews its an early one of his .... but wow really. Bad writting total horrible script . Nicolas's acting is only thing good in this movie. not worth watching in my opinion.

Ya if you liked national treasure, then you are either brain-damaged or didn't get your nappy and now your cranky. You won't like it if you think with your small brain that you "enjoy" some cheese flick like "marley and me" or "beverly hills chihuahua". You wouldn't know a good movie if it crawled up you pants and bit you where the sun don't shine. Go watch "national treasure" again, jesus doesn't love you! You are the reason good, unique movies don't sell, and drivel like you enjoy, does. i guess i came to watch a uniquely great movie and for it to assure me im watching another person and not "nicolas cage the actor, acting" we must have been looking for different experiences.

I am a fan of Nicolas Cage but I cannot recommend this for anyone to watch. Nicolas Cage "thinks" he is becoming a vampire but he has no fangs - so he buys toy plastic teeth and runs around wearing them sticking out of his mouth. He even kills a lady when he bites her with them... I watched the whole movie but it was definitely not on a par with Cage's other movies..

We had to turn this off about 30 minutes into it. I expected some humor, but got a HORRIBLE accent of some sort from Nicolas Cage. I am serious, it is the worst accent I ever heard. Then he is a complete ass towards his assistant at work. Maybe this was part of the plot, if I had kept watching maybe I would have understood that more. Please do not waste your time, money, loved ones time or anything on this movie.

Awful, absolutely inanely awful. One sees this film as an audition of Cage's for weird, senseless movies to follow. Is there a Class ... um....F for freaky & fallable in the industry? If so, this qualifies. For cult classic filmgoers, I'm sure they'll rave over Cage's insane, hell breaks loose, whacky performance which inbibes a slight giggle here & there, but not enough to redeem it.

If you want to see a young Nicholas Cage movie, because you are a devoted fan, this was ok. If you are interested in vampire flicks for the feel of them or the funny cheeky dialogue - RENT A DIFFERENT FLICK. Was Nicholas trying to sound british, or just educated? He was not able to pull off either. The plot is almost interesting, until the end. He's just mental?? Maybe the vampire exhisted but he was too unworthy for her???
