This routine film catalogues what happens to a teen's life when he is wrenched from an easy existence in affluent, East Coast suburbia and dropped into the lean, mean streets of a downscale L.A. suburb. James Spader is Morgan Hiller, displaced with his parents and brother when his father loses some of the wealth to which they were accustomed and the family moves to California. Morgan soon attracts Frankie (Kim Richards), the girlfriend of Nick (Paul Mones), a high school tough who does not appreciate Frankie's change of heart. The antagonism between Morgan and Frankie mounts as they both approach a high-noon showdown. Aside from some musical numbers which seem to have wandered in from another film about teen singers and dancers, the story is compelling and the film is notable for one of the early performances of Robert Downey in a subsidiary role. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

I have to rate this movie high because it was one of my favorite movies when I was growing up. I hadn't seen it in like 20 years and was so surprised that I found it at BLockbuster online! Its a cheesy sort of 80's high school movie nothing like the high school movies of today! I enjoyed watching it again after 20 years - kind of got a laugh at the old 80's styles of dress and hair! Definitely a must for a trip down memory lane of growing up in the 80's!!

This movie was one of the top 80's movies. Being in high school and having movies like this come out.........some really Awesome times. Most (99%) teen movies now can't top this one or the majority of teen movies in the 80's. The breakfast club, Footloose, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Summer School, The Lost Boys, Red Dawn, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, etc, etc....on and on

This movie was amazing! If you love james spader and super 80's teen drama. how has this faded into obscurity i will never know. The clothing alone makes it worth watching. i highly recommend it if you love movies like prayer of the roller boys, dream a little dream, ect.

I loved the movie when it first came out an felt compelled to see it again. Spader and Downey made the movie. It was nice to see Richards in a not so squeaky clean character from Disney. All in all worth it.

It's a very predictable class war movie. It's a classic was overlooked at the time and continues to be. The acting is very dated, but if you lived through the 80's, a lot of it will seem strangely familiar.

An 80s teen movie NOT in the vein of John Hughes. It has a Valley Girl feel to it. A bit more realistic to what greater L.A. must've been at the time. The players are lean and attractive but not in the Bally's way- more naturale. Spader and Downey Jr. totally make the movie theirs, creating believeable characters you want to cheer for. Kim Richards, though not completely convincing as a street hood's girl, still manages to come off as a conflicted sweetheart. The finale was probably realistic for it's day but ran too long. I feel bad to have avoided seeing this movie for 20 years.
