16 out of 16 people found this review helpful This TV series is simply awesome. It deals with a loving family that, like so many families, wants to kill each other at times, and yet is always there for each other through times of turmoil. Sally Field does an outstanding job as an obsessive-compulsive matriarch that must not only deal with the sudden death of her husband, but the knowledge that he had been cheating on her for many years prior to his death. The cast is star-studded and the story lines suck you in with their boldness. Every plot line is real world and provides the viewer with a roller-coaster ride of surprises. Each episode leaves you wanting more.
4 out of 4 people found this review helpful I absolutely love this series and I was excited when it came out on DVD. I don't always get to watch it when it is on at regular times and so it was nice to see the entire 1st year story line. The cast is great!

0 out of 0 people found this review helpful We like the story line and the acting is very true to life as well as entertaining. The thing we do not like is seeing the one gay brother giving his gay lover a full mouth kiss. This usually happens at least once during every episode. And their meetings usually run a total of 4-5 minutes per show which is approx 10% of the showing time. This usually happens at least once during every episode. It would be okay to make their realationship known and a part of the series but we can very well do without this gay display. That'sthe BIG problem we have, don't neet to see this in every episode.

0 out of 0 people found this review helpful I absolutely love this series! I heard about a while back and realized it's in its 4th season on TV. So, I decided to start at the beginning and see if I liked it. I was hooked on the first episode of Season 1 and plan to go through the rest of the seasons. The family is so real and there is at least one member of this family that someone can relate to. A truly enjoyable series.

2 out of 4 people found this review helpful While the series is addictive, it is that in almost an over-the-top, soapy way. By the last installment, I'm rushing through the viewing because I know how the characters are going to react between each other and what their complaints are. Acting is good, but definately well-rehearsed secular-humanism (in Nora's own words) diatribe coupled with Kevin's issues that usually leave me cold & non-sympathetic to his gay plight which is obviously what his character is supposed to produce. In a word, the over acting and unrealistic family semantics are so unreal to the average viewer one spins from that in order to soak in the desired mantras the producers obviously want to pound in over & over by the spoiled children of a way out there-LA family hard to relate to....but...beware! It is addictive nonetheless |
