Based on Jim Butcher's best-selling novels, "The Dresden Files" chronicles the cases of no ordinary detective. Harry Dresden (Paul Blackthorne) is a wizard, the only one listed in the Chicago phone book. He's got a handle on the crimes that can't be solved by anyone else. Paranormal? No problem. Dresden deals in all matters of supernatural threats. If you need a little hocus pocus or some other worldly advice, Dresden's your man.

This TV show was great!! It was X-Files with magic. The main character Harry is great at acting and he slowly grows on you through out the series. Each episode is very original from the previous one. It is a little bit scary I don't think young children should watch it. Once you start watching you can't stop so enjoy.

Better than x-files and much more suited for general audience. You dont have to be a sci fi nut to love this show. Very original, excellent show.

The series does an excellent job of taking ideas from the books and using them in new ways to come up with stories that fit the one hour TV format. The characters are similar to the ones in the books, but there are some obvious differences (in the books Murphy is a short blonde, here she is a tall brunette). All in all a perfectly enjoyable set of stories that aren't spoiled at all by having read the books first.

I just read the first five books that inspired the show and wanted to rent the the TV series to see how it was. I watched the first disc of Season 1 and wasn't impressed at all. Too much was changed from the books characterwise and in setting for me to be able to reconcile the differences and enjoy the show.

why this show was cancelled shows the absurdity of the people who make those decisions. the paranormal bull is better? the glut of reality shows are better? its not like these actors who did a great job have moved on to bigger and better things. plus it was on a network where you could watch or record it at different times and days. is tv still dictated by the neilson families? if so it is 19th century naive. the regular channels fight for tue. through thur. with their best shows so good things get cancelled instead of ruling a fri., sat., sun. they need to wake up as people of most the country stay home now because the haves have put us in a non-afford anything more than the basics. so i guess i answered my own question, the haves are making the decision's and are clueless on how most of what was the middle class lives these days.

This was one of the more fun, entertaining, and imaginative series' that has been on tv in a long while. It's certainly one of the few that's ever come out of the Sci-Fi channel in years worth watching (the last was "The Invisible Man"). Out of this series' one season run, there was only one episode that was somewhat disappointing. The rest were gold. I wish the show had been given a better chance, and a more pronounced timeslot, for more people to experience it.

This might not be important to everyone, but I like to watch video late at night with the sound low. Without CC I have to crank up the volume and skip back 2 or 3 times to catch all the dialog. Blackthorn's American accent is slurred, not precise. I can't decide if I like the books or the series better, but I do wish they hadn't cancelled the series. The personifcation of Bob the Skull was well done. Spoiler warning: In the books, Bob has to inhabit Harry's cat to get around town. This would have been awkward in the TV series.

This series was just awful! I love every one of the Dresden Files books (as well as Jim Butcher's other works) but I don't think the producers of this show read any of them. I'm glad this show was canceled, but wish it hadn't even been created, because people may be dissuaded from reading the books because of the poor quality of this show.

Kind of a sad attempt at making a modern mix of bewitched and charmed I guess. Really weak stories, unremarkable acting.
