Thunderball finds James Bond matching wits with the sinister espionage organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E, (which stands for Special Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). This time, S.P.E.C.T.R.E. hijacks a NATO nuclear bomber, hiding the bombs under the ocean depths and threatening to detonate the weapons unless a ransom of 100,000,000 pounds is paid. The mastermind behind this scheme is international business executive Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), who maintains a pool full of sharks for the purpose of eliminating enemies and those henchmen who fail to come up to standard. Dispatched to the Bahamas, lucky Mr. Bond enjoys the attentions of three nubile ladies: Largo's mistress Domino Derval (Claudine Auger), British spy Paula Caplan (Martine Beswick, previously seen as a gypsy girl in the 1962 Bond epic From Russia With Love) and enemy agent Fiona Volpe (Luciana Paluzzi). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Amazing mechanical gadgetry. Real acting and real people. Testing the limitations of the human body. Instead of today's people that just stand around trying to look good, and do nothing but let the computer draw in (generate) all the action. Making it look like they can go beyond human limatation, even beyond the physical limitation of the universe. I like the gadgets of the later Bond films better, but they do real good with the knowledge they had in the 60's.

As far as sheer adventure, creativity, special effects, acting performances and intrigue, this is Connery's best Bond outing...yes, even better than 'Goldfinger,' the sentimental favorite. I sat down with my kids this summer and watched ALL 20 Bond films (it took us all summer, every weekend) in advance of 'Casino Royale' coming out, and all of us agree this was Connery's best overall. VERY exciting, with some of the most amazing underwater action photography ever captured on film. And Claudine Auger as Domino...hooooo baby, is it hot in here, or is it just her? You won't be disappointed. A must for your collection, or a great rent!

Review 326: Space age gadget escape begins the self mocking campiness Connery plays in through this lightly goofy 007 as he ducks out before losing his remaining physique shown in this story that's boring between decent gags and a good supporting cast and characters(which Connery remade as a "back from retirement" bore 18 years later resembling the silly fatso 007 from Octopussy).

Great movie and acting. Suspenseful and exciting without the blood and gore. Leave it to our imagination. Love to see it over and over again.

This movie helped jumpstart huge special effects budgets that we are used to today. Another wonderful bond film. Gotta love it.

Thunderball wasn't BAD but it definitley wasn't Great, it was a barely passable Bond movie, that was slow at times, almost a dud. 5.5 out of 10.

Thuderball special edition: This is the first of the Bond movies where so much special effects took place. The other ones are just copies. I would watch it again. Dr. No special edition is still my first choice.

Compared to the whole Bond genre and even just to the other Connery-era Bond films, this one was alright, passable, but not quite great. Lots of dull moments and lacking the flow and pace of the other films.
