This amusing romantic comedy concerns Dr. Gerald Boyer (James Garner), a successful gynecologist with a wife and two children. Wife Beverly (Doris Day) focuses on maintaining the household and watching the kids. One of Gerald's patients, Mrs. Fraleigh (Arlene Francis), overhears Beverly talking up a new product she's discovered called 'Happy Soap' - whose manufacturer just happens to be Mrs. Fraleigh's father-in-law, Old Tom Fraleigh (Reginald Owen). She introduces Beverly to him; hugely impressed, the old man offers her $80,000 a year to pitch a new product called "Happy Soap." Beverly's career takes her away from her family responsibilities and causes a series of comedic commotions for Gerald and the kids. He comes home from work one morning and accidentally drives his convertible into a freshly dug swimming pool ordered by Beverly without his knowledge. The furious physician throws a bevy of boxes of Happy Soap into the pool, causing the house to be engulfed in suds by morning (which the kids mistake for snow). The family maid Olivia (Zasu Pitts) is nearly driven crazy with the events and has many harried scenes of comedic frustration. Directed by Norman Jewison, this thouroughly engaging comedy was written by Larry Gelbart and Carl Reiner. Reiner provides the screenplay for the feature which turned out to be the last film appearance of Zasu Pitts. With her passing marked the end of a long and successful career as a comedic and well respected actress that began in 1917. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

This movie I remember watching as a child when there were only 3 major TV stations. I shared this movie with my kids who thought they were too cool to watch Doris Day. However, we all enjoyed it as a whole family. I know the theme is outdated, but we saw it as pure fun.

Better-than-average Doris Day fluff. The Chrysler being driven into a newly-installed swimming pool is but one hysterical highlight of this film. This was comedy BEFORE "Blazing Saddles" and "Airplane!"

Being an avid Doris Day fan, I can't believe I never knew this movie existed! It was a great movie, typical of the majority of her movies, fun and funny! A young James Garner plays the role great in this.

I love Doris Day movies. She's the symbol of women's independence. Whether a housewife making more than her husband, a widowed fish farmer or construction company tycoon, she makes you feel like you can go out and break those glass ceilings to get where you want to go in life. Too bad they don't make movies like this, anymore.

I always have a good time watching a doris day movie, she is just fiesty and full of life. This movie lived up to that. Of course it dates itself majorly now, with james garners character being rather sexest throughout. the ending when they are delivering the baby in the car was just annoying and far fetched. but there was some cute moments, and you cant ever take a doris day movie seriously.

I don't consider myself particularly progressive, but this movie is absurdly chauvenistic. I can't believe that Carl Reiner wrote something so stupid, or that audiences--even in the 60s--would think that this plot was cute. Adding to the movies weaknesses, the two kids could not be any more annoying, and there are few laughs even when the movie's convoluted plot is flowing relatively well. Skip this atrocity of a movie and instead get a Doris Day classic like Touch of Mink or anything with Rock Hudson and Tony Randall.

A horrifying romp back to the dark ages. Doris Day and her wig(s) get a chance to be a product sponsor. Her professional husband manages to sabotage her; her boss digs out her backyard without permission and installs a pool; and sweet hubby (for whom a massive traffic jam magically disappears --- because he's a DOCTOR) convinces her that she should stay home, get pregnant (again), and take care of him; rather than continue with that unimportant job with all of the glamor, recognition, and nightlife. Changing diapers will be plenty of nightlife for her.
