Director Tim Hunter and co-screenwriter James Crumley go back to the basics for this rough and tumble western that proves the ladies can shoot just as straight as the men. The deadliest gang in the west has been captured and strung up. Now the law is desperate to find out where the recently departed had hidden their substantial plunder, and they're dead sure that the men's widows have the answer to that question. With the corrupt sheriff (Patrick Bergin) closing in on one side, a homicidal preacher (James Gammon) fast gaining ground on the other, and scores of hostile Indians, Pinkerton agents, and even a few gruff ghosts to contend with in between, these three desperate women (Judith Bernett, Suzanne Andrews, and Lissa Negrin) will have to keep on their toes if they have any hope of living to find the treasure and escape to freedom. John Diehl and C. Thomas Howell co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I don't recall seeing a worse movie. I just kept watching, thinking that at some point it had to get better. It never happened. The acting is painfully laughlable. The script is pointless and badly written. Spare yourself.

Another movie watcher said the same thing I had planned to say. It was a good western but the fowl language was not necessary. Every F* work ruin my feelings about enjoying this western. I believe more western movies should be made, but leave the bad words out please. I can't recommend it to friends and family just for that reason. Yes, I watch other movies with that kind of language, however somehow it just doesn't belong in a good old western movie. Sorry, I can't recommend it!

This movie could have been a great western..but...there was no reason to make it an R rated movie...95 per cent of the rating was because of language....total attempt to have an R rating assigned...the other 5 per cent was not what one would expect in the line of blood and gore...or even FEMALE nudity..given it revolves around 3 females....too bad...woulda coulda shoulda.

Drop the hammer on this one, infact bring in the bull dozer and just plow the whole damn set. This had to be one of the corniest films I have ever tried to watch. I found myself fast forwarding through the whole thing. To many horseback chase scenes along with 70s western film sound effects of cheap richochets made this into the hack that it was.

The Far Side of Jericho (2007) The film makers tried to make a Louis L'Amour old fashioned western with a modern twist using women as the central characters. The viewer cares about them as they struggle to bring justice to themselves after being run out of town by the greedy and resentful small minded town's people. The script was okay as was the production and acting. Patrick Bergin was okay but not exciting and the script lacked originality and umph. It came across like an okay made for TV movie but one that you just can't quite enthusiastically recommend. The direction played like a TV movie but "The Big Valley" it isn't. Fair over all but it could have been much better. My Grade: C- Marc L. Seattle, WA

this has to be the worst movie I have ever tried to sit through. Wife and I were hysterical at the terrible acting, stupid plot and I will give 5 stars to the horses. They were the only ones that were not hammy. Of course I zoomed through a lot of it and it did not improve the plot. Sorry guys, better go back to flipping McDonalds.
