Terror Train (1980)
Member Rating:
Riding the coattails of the resurgent boom in horror films after the success of Halloween, Terror Train features teeth-chattering direction by Roger Spottiswoode and pristine cinematography from John Alcott. The story is the basic slasher film premise, remounted on a moving train. A college fraternity decides to hold a New Year's Eve party on a train. But an uninvited guest, a disturbed ex-fraternity member, decides to take revenge on the partying students by killing them off one by one in increasingly grisly fashion. On board the terror train is horror film perennial Jamie Lee Curtis, along with David Copperfield, and Ben Johnson as Carne the conductor, who tries to calm the women students by saying things like, "Now you young ladies stay up here --it's too dangerous down in that other car." ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

I actually went to the theater and saw this when it first came out......Yes that shows my age, and I've always been an avid horror fan. Not bad.....has a unique cast. And plays on Curtis' fan base at the time. Don't expect to see a huge body count.....this one came out before it all became about the blood and guts....LOL There are some genuine scary, and gory scenes. This moves along at a slow pace, so if your from the 30 min Laguna Beach generation, you probably will find this one lame. If you have the patience to wait and see you might just enjoy this one. Yes, it does have the typical 80's back story of someone was wronged for the present day cause and effect. Don't expect too much from the plot, and you will be all right. My only real complaint is there are several scenes where the lighting is too dark.....this is one of my all time pet peeves with film makers. Hey I paid to see it, not watch a pitch Black screen.......pun intended. R.H.

I love slasher movies. This one was OK. Unique idea having characters trapped on a train to be killed. Jamie Lee made it worth watching. Even has a little surprise at the end. Not the best that I have seen. Would have been better if more characters were included in the killing spree.

This movie was just alright, not really that scary. It was pretty predictable but wasn't as bad as alot of the 80's slashers.

Definitely not in the realm of Halloween! Not very scary - quite predictable, but watchable.

Some what of a original movie otherwise this movie was slow, no gruesome murders, and the ending is very predictable. Maybe is a movie to see once but not a movie to buy. And if you want to see a good Jaime Lee Curtis film watch Halloween or Prom Night.

The movie had all the components of a great slashers; Jamie Lee Curtis, a unique spooky setting, and lots of potential victims but what it lacked was the element of surprise. The film was extremely predictable, the violence was weak, the opening scene to set the pace of the movie was really lame, and the ending was very anti-climatic. It was painful to watch! All in all, the film fell way short of making my top fifty list of classic slasher films. I would recommend watching this movie just to say, "Yeah, I saw Terror Train and it sucked!"
