Endlessly imitated, The Terminator made the reputation of cowriter/director James Cameron -- who would go on to make 1997's titanic Titanic -- and solidified the stardom of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie begins in a post-apocalyptic 2029, when Los Angeles has been largely reduced to rubble and is under the thumb of all-powerful ruling machines. Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a member of the human resistance movement, is teleported back to 1984. His purpose: to rescue Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the mother of the man who will lead the 21st-century rebels against the tyrannical machines, from being assassinated before she can give birth. Likewise thrust back to 1984 is The Terminator (Schwarzenegger), a grim, well-armed, virtually indestructable cyborg who has been programmed to eliminate Sarah Connor. After killing two "Sarah Connors" who turn out to be the wrong women, he finally aims his gunsights at the genuine article. A nearly invicible cyborg killing machine covered in human skin (arnold) comes to present day from the future to hunt and kill the one person who could one day stop the "machines" from taking over the world...doesn't get any better than this. Arnold is awsome as the bad guy TERMINATOR and even more awsome as the good guy TERMINATOR in the sequel, T2 Judgement Day. A must see and own for any hardcore Arnold Fan.

Blu-ray Review... picture very clear.. sound excellent... speakers were like machine guns... action is up close and personal... you have a cyborg half human half machine which is arnold... all out action... pretty classic movie... i noticed though around the end when arnolds skin came off... you can see the robot form and it looks almost too CGI... when it walks... But Thats Not A Big Problem.... The Action Heats Up In The Middle To End.... If You Like Killer Robots... With Bad Attitudes Then Rent This... Besides Its A Classic

I give this movie credit for what it set up - which is the Terminator series - but as far as this move being totally awesome... it just is not. The story is great, the FX I can let slide, but the acting is just terrible. At times comedic. I rented this because I had never seen it and saw T2 first. You'll be OK to skip this one. I guess rent it if you want to be able to say that you've seen 'em all.

This movie was okay. I remember it being better when I was younger. The only reason I own this movie is becuase the other 2 were so much better. Arnold is a lot better as a good Terminator. It was interesting to look back and see how advanced this movie was for 1984. You could still easily see a lot of the cheesy CGI that hadn't developed enough yet, but still the technology and graphics were great for this time. I still recommend this movie, it is a 80's classic that is a must watch.
