When an exclusive military school is threatened with demolition by a rapacious real-estate company, the students, headed by Brian Moreland (Timothy Hutton), take drastic action. Utilizing every bit of military know-how at their disposal, the boys take over the school, arm themselves to the teeth, and prepare to do battle against the "invading" developers. General Bache George C. Scott, the head of the academy, tries to quell the rebellion, but soon he too is swept up by the students' to-the-death determination when the Army is called in to rout the boys. Based on Devery Freeman's novel Father Sky, Taps features early appearances by Sean Penn (in his movie debut) and Tom Cruise as two of the cadets. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

believable the further it went, culminating in a completly absurd ending. Too bad since the movie had some potential.

You know every actor, just a future stars convention, and they did great, as kids. The plotis great, subplots were good. The dialogue was good, the story is believable. You just have to find out what happens, this is a really really good picture. I often still talk about this movie and recommend it to everyone.

A good film but it ran too long-- the script needed editing and a good dose of more reality to it -- like where was the press in all of this? And the police were portrayed as imbeciles -- look for many young big marquee names in this film from 1981 -- George C. Scott was great as he always was but it was a part that was too short. The script writers started out strong and then seemed to get lost along the way -- leaving some plot holes and unrealistic turns of the story. The message was good and still true to this day: Honor before profit and also, the true character of a person is shown when it is under pressure. Semper Fi and Semper Ama My Grade: C Marc L. I really enjoyed this movie. Everyone should see it. Loved the line "I'm human and proud of it. Without humanity there would be tyrants." Loved seen a young Tom and Sean.

It's an old movie, and I'd never seen it before! I'd say it's good, but not too realistic.

This movie had no ending, no resolution...NOTHING. It just ended...children died. It mocked the military. It denegrated the ideals of honor and living a life of integrity.

"This movie had no ending, no resolution...NOTHING. It just ended...children died. It mocked the military. It denigrated the ideals of honor and living a life of integrity." I agree, the movie stated out great, you believe that they will succeed in their mission to save the school from the Board of Trustees hoping it will be "All I Wanna Do" for men. But in the end it mocks everything that those institutions stand/stood for. And yet...At the very end of the movie we are taken back to the parade grounds of the opening sequence of the movie; this to me seems to indicate that it was all just a dream. Kind of a "what if" senerio.
