This is a great series! The castings are great, the story lines are entertaining and the chemistry between Robin (Jonas Armstrong) and Marian (Lucy Griffiths) if wonderful! It will be a long wait until Series 2 hits the US in March '08. Was this review helpful? Yes

My family is hooked on this series! Terrific action scenes, humor, and even romance. Something for everyone! Season 1 introduces you to only some of the characters and explains what happened to them while and after fighting in the Crusades. Robinhood was not always poor and running in the woods stealing from the rich. Great introduction for children to this time period. Was this review helpful? Yes

Robin Hood classicists be warned that this retelling is a totally modernized view of the world. But that's how storytelling goes, right? This show is every bit as enjoyable as the first Robin Hood tales I read as a boy, then the Robin Hood stories I heard in my adolesence. The show is exciting. The stories full of heroism and daring. The good guys are loveable, the bad guys despicable. It's clean enough for the whole family.
I have another warning, after watching subsequent disks. The show pretends no subtlety regarding its political bias on certain conservative (in the USA, anyway) stances. If you cannot abide to have the "war on terror" or aspects of it challenged, then perhaps this show is not for you. Or perhaps it's exactly what you need to see. :) In any case, after watching a couple disks, it appears to be the type of show that US conservative talk show hosts would dismiss as typical, liberal, Hollywood fare. Only filmed by Brits. In Hungary. Was this review helpful? Yes

This adaptation of the Robin Hood legend is captivating and addictive. While the fight scenes are plentiful, but lacking any real brilliance, the casting can only be described as stellar. Jonas Armstrong brings a wonderful mischief to Robin, and Lucy Griffiths is a wonderfully empowered Marian who makes it very clear she can handle herself. As wonderful as these heroes are, the really fantastic casting comes with the antagonist by the Shariff played by the wonderfully wicked Keith Allen, and his right hand Guy of Gisbourne played by the unbelievebly brilliant Richard Armitage. Filled with fun and exciting stories and a fair dose of humor, this Robin Hood has really taken the legend out of the dark ages and into the modern age! Was this review helpful? Yes

I loved this show when I saw it on BBC America, and figured I would get it to watch over Christmas break. I was surprised to find that blockbuster only sends the amount of DVD's that you pay to get at one time, therefore ruining that plan. If your going to see it, see reruns. (It's $80 to buy it!!!!!) I am usually a huge fan of Robin Hood stories but I was disappointed with this version. While it was rather nice to look at and there was a good amount of sword play and bow work, I just found this version annoying. The acting isn't very good and when fights break out there was just too much flash and not enough substance for me. I watched the first disc and won't be watching the remaining series. I love Brit series but I was sadly underwhelmed by this one. The writing and direction are mediocre at best despite the excellent cast. To be fair, I watched this the same week I watched Horatio Hornblower, and unfortunately, this one looks very silly in comparison. Granted it's a tv series and maybe it doesn't have the cushy budget of a film, but the action sequences and fight scenes are very badly choreographed and look very amateurish. Aside from the sadistic Sheriff, lovely Marian, and brooding Gisborne, I have a hard time staying focussed on the rest of the cast. The dialogue needs sprucing up and Robin is so badly miscast! We need someone a bit more charismatic on screen for such an important role! On a positive note, I enjoyed the extras and cast interviews, specially the 'Hood' training on disc 3, Was this review helpful? Yes
