Clatterford is a wonderful BBC series that is very British yet so universal at the same time. In the opening song is sung about preserving old times as well as accepting the new ones. This is the theme of the series. It is extremely funny yet also full of warm moments to which everyone can relate. Characters range from the schizophrenic Rosie to the mother figure/nurse, Sal. The action takes place in a small English village and centers around a group of women who belong to a ladies' guild. Wonderful mention is made of English festivals and traditions that bring the villagers together in a strong sense of community. I wish we had those traditions here in the states. Perhaps we would not be such a splintered society were that the case. I highly recommend this series. It is funny, full of warmth, and wonderfully acted by an English ensemble of female actors. I am so glad my friend from England told me about Clatterford. It's now one of my favorite series on dvd.

Very much like one of my favorite BBC shows, 'Last of the Summer WIne', except the main characters are the women. Sweet, funny and you'll even "get" the stuff they were making fun of in 'Hot Fuzz'!

I really liked this show. It seemed to be getting some iffy reviews online as it was coming out but I really wasn't aware of anything that Jennifer Saunders has done that hasn't been awesome. And she did it once again. This is of course more of a drama but there are some subtle funny lines and the parts that are funny are really funny. Basically any time Joanna Lumley was on I was cracking up. I could go on about why I liked this show but I don't want to ruin it. Just check it out. I can't wait for the second season.

If you are a woman over 50 or preferably over 60, and you have garnered some hard, real life experience, this is for you. Clatterford is filled with interesting and eclectic characters - like in real life - and odd and thorny situations - like in real life. This show reveals the strengths and shortcomings of people everywhere in a manner so funny and so charming, with some painful twists of irony, that you will want to see it twice. No political correctness to ruin the flow. Younger family members will drift off in a few minutes, as they will not 'get it'. I loved it. I want season 2!!!

This series is so hiliarious, so real, so in-touch, you'll be craving more. The plots are great, the acting is great, and the casting is phenominal. There are characters you'll love, a few you'll absolutely HATE, and all of them casted perfectly. Jennifer Saunders has done it again--it's as good as AbFab but in a totally different way.
