Bite the Bullet (1975) Reviews

Bite the Bullet (1975)
Member Rating:
An excellent cast, featuring Gene Hackman, Ben Johnson, and James Coburn, highlights this entertaining Western that came and went at the box office, barely noticed by audiences. That doesn't stop the exciting story from capturing the viewer's attention as a disparate group of riders assembles to participate in a marathon 700-mile horse race across the American West at the turn of the century. The standard mutual feelings of distrust give way to respect and grudging admiration as each rider is put to the test. Stunning cinematography and locations, plus a gripping pace set by director Richard Brooks, set this Western apart at a time when the genre was in decline. ~ Don Kaye, Rovi

This a captivating and funny movie which keeps the viewer engaged from start to finish. I love Gene Hackman's part. The only thing I did not care for was the ending. Who won the race????

This was a fairly good movie. The partially exposed breasts were nice, Ben johnson's back was not. But, back not butt. Interesting to see Dabney Coleman so young.+-

Beautiful scenery, good story, great acting. You will recognize many faces in this one. If you haven't yet, see it. If it's been awhile, see it.

Some films age better than others. This one shows its age, especially musically. Every time the Mexican appears on the screen you hear Spanish paso doble refrains! If you are not too demanding, this is an entertaining film. None of the stars are at their best, but it’s a passable hour or so. Watch for the tire marks in the desert!
