Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In finds him joining forces with Antonio Banderas for the first time in over 20 years. Banderas plays Dr. Robert Ledgard, a plastic surgeon who has invented a type of fake skin that is more durable than real skin. But he achieves this breakthrough with the assistance of Vera (Elena Anaya), a young woman he's keeping locked up in his mansion. The only person who knows about this unusual arrangement is his maid, Marilia (Marisa Paredes). But his secret, as well as additional sins of the past he's desperate to keep hidden, bubble to the surface when Marila's criminal son shows up with a gun, forces his way into Vera's room, and attempts to rape her. The Skin I Live In played at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Fascinating movie, I agree with the people who say that you must be a fan of the Almodovar movies to truly appreciate this one, so unusual and the actors of course are stunning and love, love, love Antonio Banderas!! Really could have done without the "Tiger". But overall great movie.

Disturbing but quite original in every way, especially as to the form of revenge that is taken here. If you enjoy the bizarre and the strange, then you might like this one.

If you like a movie that takes you on a ride that is completely unexpected, this is for you. I was truly surprised by the plot after being shocked by the facts of the plot. Then I was truly happy with the outcome. Up, down, up, down, over and over again. Great movie! I am in love with Antonio Banderas even more after this movie. No offense Melanie! ;-)

Another exploration of passion and gender - the prevailing themes of master director Pedro Almodovar - with a dash of "Frankenstein" and "Pygmalion" in the mix. Working again with Almodovar, who made him a star 20 years ago, Antonio Banderas gives a striking account of a twisted plastic surgeon obsessed with revenge. Though brilliantly made (few directors since Hitchcock have Almodovar's eye for visuals), the film is not quite up there with his masterpieces "All About My Mother" or "Talk To Her," but it's very good indeed and the horror is skillfully blended with pathos.

Strange movie. Similar to "Splice", with Adrien Brody. Drags a bit in spots. Elena Anaya is quite beautiful! It's all worth a look.

Excellent movie with a very different plot...did not even mind the sub titles.

This movie is different. All of Almodovar's movies are weird, twisted, and different. This movie uses subtitles and it shows nudity. If you rent this movie you will find the surgeon's secret (Banderas) Scandalous and perhaps inappropriate, but the story line and the twist on the story are wonderful. A must watch :)
