This movie was not made to entertain, inform or give a fictional view from the perspective of several fictional characters such as De Palma did in Casualties of War. This as an extremely biased movie where it seems obvious that De Palma is not only Anti-War, he is also anti-soldier i.e., American Soldier. I would have laughed at the terrible directing, over acting, unrealistic portrayals and over the top gore scenes if not for the blatant demonization of our man and women who serve in the Middle East. The most blatant, crass, OFFENSIVE example of anti-war propaganda I have ever seen! The way the American soldiers are portrayed as drunken, oafish, lazy, inept, misogynistic, rapists is a slap in the face to ANY soldier, myself included. De Palma does a great dishonor and disservice to the uniform. The actors should be ashamed of themselves to have ever played a role in this trash. Don't rent this so called movie! This was the most horrible movie I have ever seen! It starts out ok but it got worse by every second. DO NOT rent this movie. There is a part in the movie that is so graphic that it made me sick and I can handle anything. DO NOT show this movie to kids or anyone who has been abused. This movie shows a side of our soldiers, if this is even happening and I don't want to think it is, that makes me so sick that I'm almost ashamed to be an American. It shows a seen where these soldiers go back into a home and do aweful things to some females. I can't believe this movie was even made. The director and actors should be ashamed of themselves for being a part of this horrific movie. The director should NEVER be allowed to make any more movies if he plans to show our fearless men and women who are fighting for ALL of us, to show them in a negative light. Rent this movie at your own risk but believe you me, you will be as disappointed and as upset as I am. Was this review helpful? Yes

Whether or not you agree with the anti-war premise, this is an over-produced, amateur effort for De Palma. The characters are simplistically drawn and lack any complex human qualities - all are either completely good, completely bad, or completely confused.
Cloverfield did the handheld thing much better. Any number of other recent Iraq movies did the "bad Americans" thing much better.
Whether or not you agree with what we're doing in Iraq, this is not a subtle film. As the other posts indicate, there are no alternate viewpoints presented here - only good vs. evil.

Many reviewers reject this movie because it "embarrasses" them - when they should reject the criminals who bring the shame to the uniform or whatever one wants to be loyal to. The only way to improve any society and ourselves is to recognize the deviations from our values and reject them - the criminals, not the witnesses - that's what makes us decent humans. This movie is trying to do that, making us see a bad we could not from our couches. It does a decent job -- as do some of the many other glorifying various uniforms or ways of life. Your choice of which to watch is not what makes the other ones bad. That is what a bias is. Was this review helpful? Yes

poorly made anti american movie. if your looking for more garbage out of hollywood you've found it. Also if your planning a trip to france you might want to watch this so you will have something to talk about with the locals. if you like this they will love you. worst movie i have ever seen! As a military member i am highly affended by this film. The director and the writter of this film should be castrated. These people are the most anti patriot people i have ever known. It pisses me off that they would make this crap and then protray that U.S. soldiers are the bad people. This film is garbage and makes me want to puke.
