Set against the scenic backdrop of pre-World War II Australia, Baz Luhrmann's romantic period adventure stars Nicole Kidman as an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch, and Hugh Jackman as the rough-and-tumble cattle driver who helps protect her property from greedy English cattle barons. As the pair attempt to herd 2,000 head of cattle hundreds of miles across the treacherous Australian outback, they are stunned to bear witness to the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces -- who just a few months prior launched a devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
I put off watching this movie due to its length, but when I finally found the time I was transfixed by the story and never looked at the clock until it was over. My only complaint would be how many tissues I went through in the last half of the movie! Truly moving!
Not having seen any reviews for the movie, I wasn't sure what to expect. So when it started out I thought it was a bit of a comedy, but as it progressed it became more serious. And just when I thought the movie was wrapping up, it launches into the next seen. But that didn't bother me as I enjoyed it completely. Great movie.
