Live From Austin TX: Lynyrd Skynyrd (1999)
Member Rating:
Southern rock heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd take the stage for a sixty-minute concert featuring a variety of their best-loved tunes in this release of a 1999 concert that originally aired on PBS' Austin City Limits. Few bands can execute the three-guitar attack quite like classic-rock radio mainstay Lynyrd Skynyrd, and with this release featuring "Gimme Three Steps", "Sweet Home Alabama", and the timeless "Free Bird fans can succumb to the eighteen-string onslaught anytime they please. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Prior to watching this DVD, the only thing I knew about Lyn-Sky was that they did Sweet Home Alabama, a pretty good song. Surely they had others, I reasoned. WRONG. Not only did all of their other songs sound the same to me, they also slaughtered Sweet Home. Maybe that was because the lead singer was chewing gum while he was singing. Maybe I'm being too tough on them, and I'm sure the original Lyn-Sky with Ronnie Van Zant was much better. But I can only judge what's on this DVD.

Ive been a huge Skynyrd fan for many years, and Ive seen the old Skynryd in concert 3 times, the new one twice..this film..was not one of their best for sure.. guitar work was pretty sloppy in places..ect..

It was good to see the boys in action on Austin City Limits. The biggest drawback was the mixing. Two of the guitars could hardly be heard during their solos. This is a GUITAR band. A real shame since this was a rare appearance for them on this show. None the less, it was worth watching.
