In this offbeat comedy, Jeff Bridges plays Craig Blake, a rich kid who works with a group of hard-living Southern real-estate men led by Jabo (Joe Spinell), who are buying up a business district in Birmingham, Alabama in order to clear the space and put in a new project. Craig is supposed to work out a deal to buy the Olympic Spa, a gym popular with local weight-lifters, but after spending some time at the club, Craig finds himself fascinated with the people there, especially Joe Santo (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a world-class body builder from Austria who sometimes works out in a superhero costume and likes to play bluegrass fiddle to relax. Craig also makes the acquaintance of Mary Tate Farnsworth (Sally Field), a feisty gal who hangs out with Joe. Mary Tate finds Craig attractive, but she isn't sure he's being all that sincere, and she wonders why a wealthy real estate man is hanging out with a bunch of low-rent gym rats. I've always been a Sally Field fan, so it was interesting to see her second film. (The first was an obscure film called The Way West.) Interesting to see Arnold's second too (after Hercules in New York). I didn't especially enjoy the story though.

Not very good and it hasn't aged well. It was shot low budget and now it has a "home movie" quality that is off-putting. The characters - and particularly the bad guys - are preposterous. On the other hand, it is very funny to see a young Jeff Bridges and Sally Field (and Arnold) all looking like teen agers. Still, it is not possible to take this seriously. For laughs, perhaps.

i heard Arnold studied violin just to film one scene in this movie ,a sign of his commitment even back then . the street scene near the end is hilarious and awesome ,especially if you've ever followed bodybuilding you wiil recognize several faces in this movie that became successful after

I was in a place where I was watching a series of movies directed by Bob Rafelson and had never heard of this movie. I am pretty relaxed about my personal opinions on most movies, contrary to official reviews. I guess I would say it was interesting in that it was Arnold's first film, and his acting was more than a bit stiff. I would bet that it was also a film that Sally Field was hoping would eliminate any chance that she would be typecast in such roles as "The Flying Nun". I'm not sure why Jeff Bridges did it. If I were to describe this little known film to a friend as Arnold's first film and one that contained nude scenes by Sally Field, it would raise some eyebrows--just a little surreal. Can't say that I didn't like it--just thought it was interesting. Karen Thomas
