Thomas Smugala helms the direct-to-video drama Apocalypse and the Beauty Queen. The film concerns 26-year-old cover girl Amber, who absconds from Manhattan when her age yields a devastating rejection from modeling. After she flees to a small town, the titular apocalypse occurs and destroys the country. Amber relies on her cunning and ingenuity to band the locals together, and helps them collect supplies and ammunition and stockpile food, but suddenly the power goes to her head and threatens to spin severely out of control. Meanwhile, a friend slyly and viciously manipulates the people of the community through Amber; then a guard falls in love with one of the underlings and brings Amber's authority and control to an end. The film co-stars horror icon Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

not a big budget on this one. However, the twist ending was interesting but not enough apocolypse in this movie. Worth a watch if there are no big movies coming out on a particular week for those that like drama.

Honestly, this was a well thought out movie. I loved that (for once) in a movie or piece of literature that the woman weren't the evil seductresses. It was a nice spin on an old cliche. I also liked how it showed that if the women in the film had simply believed in themselves (without the validation of a man or society in general) they could have been strong and better leaders.

Kinda' like the "Grind house " movies, inexpensive, some Locals as Cast. Junkyard cars as living quarters/prisons and whore-houses. Still pretty girls in trouble, that's entertainment.

Ok, it's a low budget film but it's still pretty good. The backgrounds and props are great as are the costumes. Thomas Smugala does a good job of directing and the actors are pretty good too. Keeping in mind that the budget was low, it's still good entertainment and a glimpse of how the world may be after the apocalypse. I doubt that it will be run by a beauty queen though!

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It makes me think of some high school or college class project. It was directed by someone who watched too much MTV. The dialog was atrotious, but it was better than the acting. I do not recommend watching this if you are older than 16.

Avoid this one! How this got into the horror genre is beyond me but this is more like "A Boy And His Dog" without the humor. A real stinker, bad acting, bad script, just plain bad! View for insomnia only!

This movie was poorly acted and the plot was pointless. It was so bad I fast -forwarded through most of it. In addition, the "sprinkling" of sex scenes had no real connection to the "plot line", (if any)
