Witness the stories of four US army defectors who abandoned their homeland to seek out a new life in communist North Korea in this fascinating documentary from filmmaker Daniel Gordon. It was August of 1962 that Private First Class James Joseph Dresnok crossed the heavily fortified border from South Korea into the North. Now, more than forty-years later, the last living US Army defector known to reside in North Korea speaks with Gordon in Pyongyang about his life, experiences, and what it means to be a member of the US military who has defected to a communist nation. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I wanted to watch this movie for over a year, but it was impossible to find until I stumbled across it on blockbuster.com. It is a fascinating subject, well done, and worth your 90 minutes. It also speaks well of blockbuster that they will make harder-to-find selections available, and not just movies with Tom Cruise or the big stars.

Interesting documentary on the life of PFC James Dresnok from his point of view. I believe he is the rare exception to the rule and in no way should his experience be confused with heroism. No question this man had a very difficult upbringing and his time in the US Army didn't do much to help him feel appreciated or even accepted. Just the opposite, it reinforced his belief in the unfairness and loneliness of his life as an American. In the end I believe Dresnok made the right choice for himself.
