Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis follows up his high-flying tale of reptilian terror with this horrific frightener concerning a group of college students who discover that their dormitory was once a mental hospital presided over by a sadistic doctor. As the semester gets under way, it begins to appear as if the spirit of the malevolent M.D. has decided to remain in the haunted hallways in order to continue his experiments on the latest crop of students. Written by Ethan Lawrence and starring Sarah Roemer, Mark Rolston, Ellen Hoffman, Travis Van Winkle, Cody Kasch, and Jake Muxworthy, Asylum features state-of-the-art special effects work by Academy Award-winning artist David LeRoy Anderson (Dawn of the Dead [2004], Men in Black, and The Nutty Professor). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
You get what you pay for with this one, for straight to DVD in the horror genre this is a good one. Not an award winner, but you already knew that before you rented it.This was a well-shot movie, with fantastic scenery, a semi-decent plot, and a freaky villian. It lagged at times and had a few cheese-dog actors but I liked it.
This movie was good if you are a horror fan. It has an okay plot (not real original). The movie was predictable most of the time but there were a few surprises involving the storylines of some characters. All and all, it was entertaining but not real memorable.
There must be a Horror Movie for Dummies book out there that some of these people get this stuff from. It followed all the usual steps in writing a horror movie. Starting with getting to know each character and then telling their "secret" past which is used by the Dr. Acting wasn't too good, but overall it was an okay movie. Just don't expect a great movie and you might not be disappointed.
