A precocious but troubled young girl living in 1950s-era Alabama seeks solace in the music of Elvis Presley in director Deborah Kampmeier's controversial tale of childhood trauma and musical healing. An air of repression lingers over the home of spirited youngster Lewellen (Dakota Fanning), who finds both comfort in the music of pop sensation Presley, as well as a place to store her pain and anger. In time Lewellen begins to find her own voice, a voice that will instill her with the strength to move beyond the pain of her past and into a more hopeful future. Piper Laurie, David Morse, and Robin Wright Penn star in a period drama that made its debut at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Long drama, boring at times. The only thing I enjoyed was the acting of Dakota Fanning.

This was my favorite Fanning movie. Excellent acting by all. My husband who is a retired Marine only enjoys action and blow 'em ups, but he genuinely liked this one. A must see if you want to hear the Southern blues, feel the breeze on your face on a hot summer night and listen to the crickets songs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as I always love to see Dakota Fanning in any movie. This was a moving portrayal of a young girl's life in the south. This is a great movie that is very emotionally portrayed by all of the actors.

this movie was well done. it portrayed a innocent girl her everyday life living in the south just being a kid and a huge elvis fan.it is not a movie to watch with your children because the theme is adult.there is a rape scene but that does not make the movie dakota's acting was top notch and the suporting cast was also excllent.worth watching.

I truly disliked this movie. It was emotionally violent. You know, there are just some movies that do not need to be made and this is one of them.

I AM A SURVIVOR OF EXTREME SEXUAL ABUSE SINCE I WAS 3 YEARS OLD TO 17. ALTHOUGH I CAN FUNCTION THERE ARE MANY WHO CANNOT. I KNOW WHAT EVERYONE WILL SAY "DON'T GO OR TURN THE TV. WOULDN'T IT BE BETTER IF HOLLYWOOD COULD TAKE RESPONSIBILTY AND DEAL WITH SUBJECTS THEY KNOW. BUT THEN I GUESS THEY COULDN'T SELL IT. HMMM SAD.
