This series which unfortunately lasted only one season on the Sci-Fi channel is actually better than many might think. There are some cheesy special effects, however, these do not detract from what is an interesting story. If you like all the other similar type series (including The X-Files) then I'm almost certain you'll like Surface.

I have no idea why there was never a 2nd season. My whole family loved this series. It was nice to be able to view it again.

After buliding up to the ultimate question of who wins, IT STOPS, ENDS, GOES NO FURTHER!!!! Still, for those who like to make their own ending, or can just say, WOPW, whatta a great series, thi sis most satisfying. VERY well acted, those who are, are not, questions are answered. Twisty, Turny plot swings, characters you either love or loathe, it makes for a wonderful series that relies but does not suffer from minimal special effects, although those are superb. SOME violence, and it can be graphic, but still fgor those into their teens, and up, this can make some very good family fare. Family values are very prominent here, and the love here for one anaother is strong. Who knows, amybe the series will finish. Hey, they made a new Babylon 5 DVD, anythings possible.

A great tv series that never made it beyond a first season, but even at one season its a must see for monster movie & sci-fi buffs.

One season was just enough to make you want more, it was the victim of 500 channels and no fixed time slot or even fixed station. How is a series to develop a following unless it has a chance to be seen and known, this is one of those programs many people see for the first time after the fact of it being canceled. It is a good Sci-Fi show and worth watching and petitioning for more.

The premise of the series is a newly discovered lifeform is found to be destroying the eco-system of the seas. Told from several points of view, 1 - the government / military / scientific cover up 2 - the curious scientist (now on the run from government / military) 3 - a curious boy who has a hatchling as a pet. Just to name a few of the sub-stories slowly being weaved together by the season 1 climax. Great SCI-FI with a really good evolving set of interconnecting storylines that is fun to watch, action packed and at the same time keeps even the most attentive viewers guessing where the story will lead or who is and or is not telling the truth. At present there is no ending and that is it's only detraction for recommending to view it. I hope someday they will complete the story in a continuation of the series (more seasons please) or a full length movie, tho I doubt they could even tie up all the loose ends of the story in a mini-series let alone a single movie.
