Firefly: The Complete Series [4 Discs] Reviews

Firefly: The Complete Series [4 Discs] ()

Joss Whedon attempted to follow up his successful series Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the science fiction-themed Firefly. Although the series failed to garner a mass audience, it did have a loyal following. Those fans will be pleased by this box set that contains every episode of the series that aired, as well as three never-before-seen episodes. All 15 episodes are presented in anamorphic widescreen. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Commentaries are available on four of the episodes. Production featurettes, a blooper reel, and a tour of the set with Whedon round out this solid package that should be of interest to genre enthusiasts as well as Whedon's fans. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This series to truely a must see for any sci-fi fan. It's so much better than SG-1, it's sad. Origonal series premis, origonal plot mechanics, regular unexpected decisions by the charactors. There is nothing textbook about this series. Just prepare yourself for the fact that the series ends in the middle of the first season, then rent Serenity to have most of the lose ends tied up.

After seeing the Movie Serenity, which was pretty good, it got me wanting to watch the series that it came from. I finally got to watch it and it was a really good series, funny, and memorable. It is sad that FOX screwed this gem up =/. A truly good series to watch I am a fan for life of FIREFLY. =).

Firefly is an interesting mix. It's like a combination of Starwars, Indiana Jones, Wild Wild West, and Dr. Who.... a sci-fi, action movie, with a intergalactic western flavor. A fun, mixed bag. Too bad it didn't last longer. It could have become a Star Gate, Star Trek kind of show. I'd give it four stars.

I feel compelled to tell everyone to watch this brilliantly entertaining series. If you haven't seen this, you are missing out on great entertainment. An exciting and exhilarating ride through the wonders of a different time and space with a view into the struggles of humanity that can be related to today. All the characters quickly develop into friends you can relate to and want to spend more time with. The only bad thing about the series is the fact that it ends... However, you will find some solace in knowing that the movie made from this series (Serenity) is waiting for you to enjoy.

Firefly was a truly WONDERFUL series that blended the classic sci-fi elements, a touch of old-west feel, and rib-splitting humor. I rank this series in the same mane as the Star Trek and Babylon 5 series, with Firefly being hot on the heels of B5 as my all-time favorite. As for the Fox corporation... well, let's just say they've proven time and time again that they have no class or judgement with Sci-Fi. Their track record speaks for itself: Star Wars, Space: Above & Beyond, and Firefly (and I'm sure there's others). If you are a writer, and you have the next "Uber-Series / Story" sitting on your shelf, I IMPLORE you to stay away from Fox at all costs! You owe it to your story, and to the plethora of fans that are going to fall in love with your idea to NOT allow Fox to send it flying to a beautiful start, just to pull it's wings off after one season.

Great, great show. I can't say enough good things about it. It's a shame it was cancelled, but "Serenity" was a great ending.

I really enjoyed this series (on DVD) and I did know going in that there was an imminent end. But still, great sci-fi with classic humor. Definitely recommended.

I have to say I was somewhat skeptical about watching this, as I had started it with a guy I was seeing and am not fond of people trying to force their likes on you in the hopes that you have something in common. After the first disc I was so hooked I could not stand waiting to see an episode until we hung out so rented the series! Great humor, although predictable story line. I was upset when Deadwood was taken off the air and left its followers hanging. Firefly went through the same life span. Very sad that this series had such a shirt life.
