Paul Verhoeven's American breakthrough film, Robocop, is an exceedingly violent blend of black comedy, science fiction, and crime thriller. Set in Detroit sometime in the near future, the film is about a policeman (Peter Weller) killed in the line of duty whom the department decides to resurrect as a half-human, half-robot supercop. The RoboCop is indestructible, and within a matter of weeks he has removed crime from the streets of Detroit. However, his human side is tortured by his past, and he wants revenge on the thugs who killed him. The film was later followed by two feature-length sequels and a live-action television series, neither of which were as successful as the original film. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
This movie is a classic, if gory, cyberpunk adventure. This movie is what dystopian NON-apocalyptic cyberpunk futurism is all about. In English? Lots of fun, extremely violent and ultimately, a movie about good winning in the end despite great odds. The good guys will triumph - though changed, a strong sense of virtuous will and a sense of one's inner humanity will overcome all obstacles. Some armor and cybernetics certainly help a little, here, though. The Hero does not ever have it easy, and there is no "Deus Ex Machina".
Robocop was a profound meditation on a lot of things, hidden beneath the surface of a ridiculous and slightly campy exploitation movie. It has all of the trademarks that make Paul Verhoeven great- the extremely graphic ultraviolence, brief but gratuitous female nudity, and memorable scenes and supporting character. Definitely worth watching for fans of action.
what can i say im nostalgic, and this is one of those movies thats worth taking a look at in high def all over again,i give this movie 10 out of ten stars.
This little winner has undoubtedly stood the test of time. This one must be the mother of all future sci-fi cop movies ever made Rob Weller Was awsome in this role, it was as if the movie was taylor made for him. The supporting cast all held their own. Even nancy Allen a former model playing a role where she get down and dirty was good. I recommend this movie for any who likes blood, gore, action and good storylines.
An outstanding big-budget sci fi action movie, at least compared to the 80s. Just big robots and big machines causing violence and mayhem. Not sure if they've ever digitally updated the special effects, but that would breathe new life into this movie.
