Battlestar Galactica: Season 03 (2006)
Member Rating:
The space opera's third season picks up a short time after the Colonial fleet was forced to abandon the bulk of humanity on the harsh but habitable New Caprica as the Cylons descended upon the defenseless settlement. While the commanders of Galactica and Pegasus, Adm. William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and Cdr. Lee "Apollo" Adama (Jamie Bamber), clash over the admiral's plan to rescue those left behind, resistance guerrillas led by Col. Saul Tigh (Michael Hogan) use suicide bombers to strike back at the Cylon occupiers on New Caprica. The occupation produces heroes, traitors and hostages-the last best personified by Capt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), who becomes a Cylon's love interest. Captive Cylon Sharon (Grace Park) redeems herself when she agrees to help Adm. Adama rescue the citizens of New Caprica. While the rescue operation unfolds, defrocked president Gaius Baltar (James Callis) locates Sharon's Cylon-human baby and accepts an invitation from D'Anna (Lucy Lawless) to join the Cylons. The large-scale rescue proves successful, but the occupation leaves emotional scars on the survivors, particularly Starbuck and Tigh, who stir up dissent within the ranks. Adm. Adama endeavors to heal his crew with a boxing event that ends up being cathartic for Starbuck and Apollo. While trying to prove his worth to the Cylons, Baltar helps D'Anna probe the mythical "final five" humanoid Cylons-who have become lost to the rest of their race-an investigation that doesn't sit well with the Cylon Cavil (Dean Stockwell). A food shortage forces the Colonial fleet to traverse a dangerous passage to an algae planet, home to a mysterious temple that houses a veritable road map to Earth, which the Cylons also covet. The tragic loss of a troubled crewmate and a sensational trial onboard Galactica become game-changing milestones during the fleet's quest for Earth. ~ Michael Chant, Rovi

Once again, the show strikes gold because it focuses on characters and not just action. There is such a richness and depth... the characters are not just good or evil but very mixed. Sometimes, the main characters are very flawed and downright evil when before, they were the hero or heroine. I like that. It is more like real life and it causes us all to reflect very deeply about our own limited perceptions of right and wrong.

This season has sucked me into the storyline even more. At one point I found myself watching 3 episodes in a row because I wanted to see what happened next. Definetly has not lost it's touch on story richness and variety.

I love the way they have taken the plot points, characters, conflicts, etc from the original show and re imagined it. Each season gets better and better. I'm glad I waited to watch the show until I could see it from the beginning.

I just love the new BSG all around. I think non-sci fi lovers are really missing out on one of the best shows of the decade. Guess what, you don't have to like sci-fi at all to love this show. I have never bought a t.v. series before, but I'm sure I will have this whole collection!

I never watched this show when it aired so I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say this is definitely becoming one of mu favorite all time shows. The blending of drama and action is perfect. Plot lines, sometimes, surprise, which is rare and the religious aspect of it is very interesting without shoving any religion down our throats. I couldn't ask for more. Well maybe to find out what happens next but Season Four is on it's way.

Still awful. Not much Sci-Fi here but lots of drama. This is basically a soap opera set in space. The old BSG while campy and silly was still better.

There were three "episodes" on disc three, but the third episode was an extended version of the second, which I didn't realize until after I had watched the second episode. The third episode started and my first reaction was...what's going on?

First of all, I absolutely love this series. Being a fan of the original, this series has taken its own route and should be credited with being an even better drama than sci-fi tale. That being said, the last half of this season was a bit of a disappointment. I'm not saying that it jumped the shark, but there were some episodes that were very slow and bogged down, and some of the characters seemed to do things that have completely gone against everything they have stood up for during the entire series run. It almost felt like the writers just decided to stir the pot for no reason. Anyway, still a great show and can't wait to finish it off with season 4.
