The Razor's Edge (1984)
Member Rating:
In this Bill Murray-driven remake of the 1946 Tyrone Power film, Murray plays the lead, Larry Darrel, a World War I survivor who takes off on a foreign trek to discover the meaning of his life. Apparently Murray said he'd film Ghostbusters only if Columbia would let him do Razor's Edge. ~ Rovi

I am still baffled by the lack of acceptance of this movie. Bill Murray gives a brilliant performance in this mostly serious movie adaptation from Somerset Maughm's book "A Razor's Edge." Not entirely true to the book, but well-adapted for the movie screen. Stunning on-location scenes, and another Bill Murray movie that caused me to examine my life.

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I keep getting this feeling. Like being on a roller coaster, racing along, and then suddenly... it stops. And you can see all around yourself, able to vision what you're are doing. How you affect and how you're effected. Awakening to the moment, this moment! Forget about Yesterday. Disregard tomorrow What do you want to do with Today? Your path is only Human, but still, yours to steer.

I know tastes in movies differ, and I respect that, but for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would enjoy this movie. I read the book just a couple of months before seeing the original with Tyrone Power, and I loved the book and the original film, which depicted the novel accurately. I'm guessing that if you had not read the book, this movie might have been more enjoyable - then again, maybe not. I can't hate any movie Bill Murray is in but Catherine Hicks couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, and deviating from the novel as it did left little room for any other character to be developed. I felt it was just an unfortunate waste of time.

I found this movie rather tedious and long. Others have done this time of film much better. It was just ok.

Well done by Bill Murray. I'd love to see this movie done again today, with are modern film making techniques, by some new up and coming actor, just to be able to compare. I guess I'm saying that although I'd liked the film, I'm not sure it couldn't be done better, or with a different take on this deep and thought provoking, endless theme.

The original was definitely better than Bill Murray's Version. It didn't catch my attention for very long and I found myself going to sleep in the middle of it. Coming from an insomniac that says alot.

this movie stunck! if you want to see Razor's Edge see the original after you have read the book. This was a cast of comedians walking thru what, i do not even know. The one saving point of the movie was the music.
