Director Michael Corrente's coming-of-age comedy drama Brooklyn Rules unfurls in 1985, coincident with the early rise of John Gotti. Three young Brooklyn men of Italian-American heritage -- Michael Turner (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Carmine Mancuso (Scott Caan), and Bobby Canzoneri (Jerry Ferrara) -- make the pivotal, potentially irreversible choices that will determine their directions in life. The boys' periodic run-ins with a sadistic mobster type who rules the neighborhood, Caesar Manganaro (Alec Baldwin), suggest the ever-present option of drifting into a career of crime. On the surface, Michael courageously and doggedly bucks this choice, opting instead for the pre-law program at Columbia and a straight-laced romance with blonde-haired, blue-eyed coed Ellen (Mena Suvari), yet this path is not as antiseptic as it may seem, for he actually scammed his way into the law program. Meanwhile, Carmine idolizes Caesar, and his desire to emulate this thug not only compromises his own moral integrity, but threatens to jeopardize the stability of Michael's life as well by drawing him into a sticky web of criminal activity. While the first two men navigate these treacherous paths, the third friend, Bobby, stakes out safer ground with a low-key job at the post office and married life with his intended. Over the course of it all, the boys' bonds of friendship become stressed and strained given the divergence of their paths. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Okay movie, but the similarities to A Bronx Tale are stagering. Decent enough acting by all involved but I'll take the original over this one any day.

I thought Scott Caan was awesome! Did anyone else think Mena Suvari was Christina Ricci the whole movie like I did? I shed a few tears, and enjoyed the spot-on 80's fashion and musical selections.

I'm not sure I felt it was identical to Bronx Tale, maybe parallel?? it took at least 3 attempts for me to get into the movie. Once the action started I followed along but there was no real connection to the characters, the events were somewhat comical but not really significant. The only events that seemed significant lead nowhere but to an anticlimactic ending more suitable for a cable drama. No wonder it did not go to the big screen. Alec was amazing of course but he deserved better than the bootleg situation that he got.

going to use this opportunity as well to bash BB. Just what Paul was saying. Have been a member for years and this is a real screw up for the amount we pay and now limited in store rentals. Could choke myself for leaving Netflix....but am definitely going back, Wasnt bad enough they penalized us by forcing us to go to the stores because our queues sat with "long waits".

The story was ok but a little slow. I was a little dissapointed. Perhaps if you are from the area the movie is about you would find it more interesting but there are a lot of better movies out there to see. If I give a movie less then a 3 star rating it means I feel the return on enjoyment from my time invested wasn't worth it. another writer or director might have been able to do more with the story.
