Neil Jordan's The Brave One stars Jodie Foster as a happy woman whose life changes irrevocably after a brutal assault leaves her partner (Naveen Andrews) dead. The woman, feeling that the police investigation will be unable to catch the perpetrators, begins to live in constant fear. This outlook results in the woman eventually dispatching vigilante justice. Terrence Howard co-stars as the officer in charge of the investigation. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
I rarely see a movie twice. This was a lot like the sixth sense. You see this movie not expecting anything. You have to wonder what you would do in that situation. I felt her pain and uncomfortable for her while she shook uncontrolably. It was a good movie and Jodie Foster really was great in it.
I enjoyed this movie, it definitely held my attention. The story line was good, the characters were real. It was good to see Nikki Katt in something again, I haven't seen anything with him in it since Boston Public was cancelled. The only thing that I didn't like is the ended was a little cheated. There were too many things that should have been done in order for the Detective to get away with his plan.
I didn't have high hopes for yet "another" vigilante film I thought -- but this one was different than I expected & I was not disappointed. I love Terence Howard in most of his roles, as I do Jodie Foster -- and this was no exception. Erica Bain (Foster) is a NYC radio personality whose fiancee is beaten to death sending her into some never before known areas of her own psyche. She begins to walk the streets of NYC at not, and understandably gets herself into situations that "force" her to take lethal action. Detective Mercer (Terence Howard) becomes suspicious of her involvement in the slayings & seeks to rescue her from her new "self" she's acquired. Also look for a brief appearance of Naveen Andrews (from Lost) as her fiancee.
I really enjoyed the movie for several reasons. First, I am a big fan of both Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard. Secondly, it was great to see a woman who had a trajic event in her life struggle with the realities of the pain, question herself and her actions, but do what she felt she had to do, whether it would be considered morally right by the vast majority of people. And finally, I loved the ending as it was totally unexpected.
I don't think the title does this movie justice nor conveys what it is about. Jody Foster plays a woman whose life is forever affected by a very traumatic event and the change allows her to deal with what happened to her. I happen to like this type of movie, but Jody does an incredible job of acting in it. I have also become even more of a fan of Terrence Howard, who plays a very powerful role as a police detective caught in a vexing conflict of loyalties. This is a violent movie, but if you can take that, it is not a movie one can afford to miss.
