The third entry in the ultra-macho Rambo action movie series finds muscle-bound warrior John Rambo (co-writer and star Sylvester Stallone) refusing a request from his former Vietnam superior, Green Beret Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna). Trautman is to lead a mission to aid the mujahedeen rebels fighting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, but the Buddhist Rambo turns his friend down. When the mission goes awry and Trautman is subsequently captured and tortured within a prison fortress, Rambo launches a rescue effort of his own, armed with his trademark bow and exploding arrows. Along the way, he allies himself with the freedom fighters and runs afoul of the villainous Russian commander Zaysen (Marc de Jonge). At the time of its release, Rambo III -- released in the same month in 1988 that Russian troops began withdrawing from Afghanistan -- was the most expensive film ever made, at 63 million dollars. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

This was a great movie. It was action packed and full of explosions at every turn. The budget for this first was massive at the time. The story doesn't change much from the second film, but you really aren't watching a Rambo film for the story if it's not the first one. If you like over the top action and one-man army movies, this is definitely for you. It's a classic favorite.

Classic late '80's action movie. Lots of blooody violence and Rambo kills about 200 people I'd say. That Russian Army didn't stand a chance against John Rambo. The mullet is also a timeless classic. "Who are you?" "Your worst nightmare."

Still my favorite Rambo, although I have not seen the last one yet. BluRay looks absolutely fantastic! Amazing who our friends were back in the 80's, wonder who our enemies will be 30 years from now?!?! The "Cauterizing The Wound" scene will forever be etched in my brain!

If you like action, this movie has it all. But if you like realistic plots, you will be disappointed with this movie. As much as I tried, I could not stop shaking my head throughout this movie and laughing in total disbelief. Unfortunately, this movie was about as realistic as Professional Wrestling. John Rambo essentially takes on an entire platoon of Soviets, and seemingly manages to save Afghanistan as a result ! Ya...okay....! But hey...let's call a spade a spade here. This movie is loaded with action - and it is fun ! But a bit more realism would have helped this movie to be even better. One man (Rambo) taking on a hundred or so Soviets (who bumble and fumble over one another trying to catch Rambo) is just so hard to believe, that it sort of ruined the overall movie for me - - but it was fun watching it !

Now many people say that First Blood is the best one. But Rambo III was a kick @$$ film. It's non-stop action! A must see movie!!! A ****and a half star movie!

I have seen this movie countless times. It is a classic in the footsteps of the previous two parts. If one wants to understand what is happening in afghanistan with the Taliban just look at this film to see its genesis.
