This legendarily campy sci-fi epic (shot in color and CinemaScope, and rather lavish for a sci-fi film of this period) concerns a team of astronauts (all men -- this was 1958, you know) who are drawn off course and land on the planet Venus, only to discover it's populated entirely by beautiful women! The space travelers spend a lot of time drooling over their new hosts, dressed in highly practical mini-skirts, but the Venusian queen (Laurie Mitchell) does not much care for her visitors and wants to see them executed. However, not everyone on the planet takes such a hard line against the male gender. One of the Venusians is played by Zsa Zsa Gabor in what is probably the highlight of her film career; the original story was written by Ben Hecht. The producers helped stretch their budget by borrowing costumes and props from a number of other films, including spacesuits from Forbidden Planet, a spaceship from Flight To Mars and sets from World Without End (which was set on Mars, not Venus, though the differences must have escaped the film's scientific advisors). ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Classic B-horror movie featuring Zsa Zsa Gabor. Dahhhhling she looked fabulous but was her hair silver? The gowns were lovely. The spiders....watch out! A great movie to watch while knitting! Enjoy dahllllllings!!!! ~ Susan L.

There are a lot of tall amazon women in this movie who never get a close up. Zsa Zsa Gabor does get close ups and she isn't one of them.

The Queen of Outerspace was actually a well made movie, with reasonably good sets and costumes, even though many of them came from that great film, Forbidden Planet. The special effects were competent for the day. It is only the campy acting by key performers and the jocular way in which the script (if there was one) was written that makes this a B film, rather than a serious 50's vintage scifi film. Zsa Zsa is a beauty in her 50's youth and her accent is less noticeable than today. You must have an affection for 50-60's B films, and I do. I rate this film high on the B scale, but against our modern film culture, still rate it at only a 2.5, because lacking a genre following, it is only a 50's scifi film gone wrong. John Serra

An excellant movie for its generation. Zsa Zsa is fabulous and my kids loved it. We already love Green Acres and Zsa Zsa reminded us of Eva Gabor from Green Acre. The graphics and sets are like pops used in school dramas but the soul of the movie is so real that you do not mind it.
