A young Jewish girl looking to escape the clutches of the Third Reich after seeing her parents and sister brutally slain while attempting to make their way to England is sheltered by an old friend whose status as a member of the "third" sex soon leads the Gestapo pounding on his door as well. Betrayed by a smuggler who sat idly by as her family was casually slaughtered by the SS, terrified Sara (Louise Monot) flees into the comforting care of childhood summer-vacation chum Jean (Jeremie Renier) and his faithful lover Philippe (Bruno Todeschini). This profoundly, moving, sad masterpiece must be seen even though the second half will tear at your heart in sadness. Its depictions of the atrocities of the Third Reich and its barbaric cruelity against gay men makes one appreciate what freedoms we enjoy today, 70 years later. The first half of the movie made me fall in love with the Jean, Philippe, and Sarah, and then during the second half, i needed a few tissues to wipe the tears from my eyes when Jean is betrayed by his brother and is tortured by the Nazis, and Philippe is senselessly killed. I cried during the last 5 minutes, and though the movie is tough to see, you must see it. Reminds me of Spielberg's masterpiece "Schnidler's List", a movie i could only watch just one time.

Since this film played all the gay and lesbian film festivals (and won best film at practically all of them), I thought the main plot was about the two lovers. Wrong! It's the story of two brothers, one straight and one gay--and the girl they both love in their own way. Very clever in building it's tangled web.. Effective acting particularly Louise Monot (who is a gorgeous French girl). But sometimes the film feels kinda TV movie-ish in production value and CORNY music score (it was a French made-for- TV-movie). Nevertheless, I was a blubbering mess at the end!

One of the most beautiful and sad films that I have seen in a long time. At times I was filled with joy and at others, horror. I usually don't cry at films but this one started the waterworks.

a well-written and very well-acted WW2 drama. Goes from the peaceful gentler time and moves thru the really tense and trying times. A different slant on the Holocaust. But really more of a story about 2 brofthers and dealing with the betrayal that can come with sibling rivalry. Beautiful! and sad...

This movie was all in French.... so how can an american.. who speaks english only... understand two words of this movie.... there was nothing but praise on the cover of this DVD movie that was printed in english not french... it won a lot of awards... Good for the french men...bad for the english man...
