Psycho III (1986) Reviews

Psycho III (1986)
Member Rating:
For his third outing as disturbed innkeeper Norman Bates, Anthony Perkins directed as well as starred in the thriller Psycho III. This time out, Norman is still manning the desk at the Bates Motel, where he now has an assistant, Duane (Jeff Fahey), and a new long-term tenant, Maureen Coyle (Diana Scarwid). Maureen has been seeing Duane and has some issues to resolve in her life; she gave up her vows as a nun not long ago, and she isn't sure just how she feels about either spiritual or earthly matters. Norman takes an interest in Maureen, which may not be good for her long-term health -- after all, the last woman with the initials "M.C." who stayed in that room (and used the shower) met with a rather nasty fate. Perkins played Norman Bates one more time, in the made-for-cable Psycho IV: The Beginning; a short-lived TV series followed, Bates Motel, in which Perkins did not participate. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

As a HUGE fan of the entire Psycho series, Psycho III didn't rank up there with the rest of them, but I still thought it was good. Same old plot and story, but if you're a fan of part 1, 2 and the beginning, you'll probably like this too.

Blood: 1 Cheese Factor: 4 1/2 Acting: 2 1/2 Overall: 3 This was not a bad movie especially considering its the third installment to the Psycho series. Although I must say what is it with those cheesy 'falling down the stairs backwards' scene that continues to reappear throughout the 'Psycho' movies? It was bad in the first and its still not working! If you've seen the first two defiantly see this one.

Anthony Perkins taking control of this film by being the director and main character. He does alright, lots of plot holes though. Decent kills and story that goes along with this movie. Take a look if your into the series.

I could tell Perkins was trying his best with directing, but he should've put his effort in another film; THIS IS A BAD SEQUEL. For those who want a synopsis: Bates is off his (mother's) rocker again and piling up bodies in the swamp. One of them has the same initals as, and reminds him a great deal of Marion Craine, Janet Leigh's charicter in the first one.
