The Prowler (1981)

In this gory (the special effects are especially well done) slice-n-dicer, the happiness and the sanity of a W.W.II vet is destroyed when he returns home and finds his girl in the arms of another at the town's annual dance. Outraged, he kills both with a pitchfork and the town does not hold the dance again for the next 35 years. The story jumps to the future and the town prepares to hold the dance again. Unfortunately, the vet hears about the dance and comes back to do a little more killing. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

If you like early 80's slasher flicks like Friday the 13th, Halloween, Prom Night and My Bloody Valentine then you'll enjoy this as well. Joseph Zito, who's been involved with Friday the 13th, and Tom Savini's gore effects make this movie stand among the elite for this era. I love these movies.

The Prowler I bought just on a whim when I was in NYC and I can say its one of the best horror movies I've purchased, the movie was great the gore was excillent, the acting was below par and the cheese factor was high, all-n-all this is definetly a classic slasher film from the 80's RECOMMENDED! The best line of the film (while two teens are making out) "Wait, I thought I heard something!" "Its probably just the wind, eventhough we're in the basement."

Standard 80's slasher film with amazing gore effects making it stand out from the pack. The shower scene on its own may be one of the greatest kills in cinema history.

I enjoy slasher movies, they are my favorite horror genre. This one did run along the lines of your typical teen massacre, but I enjoyed it. I think it was well done with good special effects and decent storyline. Tom Savini does the special effects and he is one of the best artists out there to this day.

The movie was below average. I realize that Joesph Z. who did Friday 13th The Final Chapter . I expected a little better it was a lot like My Blood valentine. However that one was much better.

Why have I never heard of this movie until now? This is one of the better 80s slasher movies. Great kill scenes. I wish it would have had a higher body count. Reminds me of My Bloody Valentine but with more action throughout the movie instead of just the end.

Although at points the film boggs down with creeping around for a bit, the kills in this movie are amazing, that dirty Italian TOm Zavini hit this one out of the park with some very gruesome gore.
