Read More This is an enjoyable movie, but I can't say it's especially compelling. It's about a woman who apparently has trouble committing in her lesbian relationships, and then suddenly finds herself attracted to a man who has just broken up with his girlfriend. Things get complicated when she also becomes attracted to, and involved with a new woman, who has just gotten out of a heterosexual relationship, and so she decides "why not enjoy both worlds?" There are some fun scenarios, and it takes place in New York, so there are scenes here and there that make the viewer want to book tickets on the next plane to JFK. But there are also a few parts of the movie where it seems to get bogged down and I found myself wondering where it was going. So, if you're looking for something that's light and you don't care about whether or not you'll remember it in a month, this might be a good choice for an evening's viewing pleasure. Read More Lacking...Marketed heavily to the Lesbian community but not sure why. Yes the main character is supposed to be a Lesbian, however, you never see intimacy with her existing girlfriend and very little of that once she has moved on to Gretchen Mol's character (seriously underdeveloped). For that matter, Elizabeth Reaser seems pretty bored throughout the entire movie. In fact Reaser's character is shown as being intimate with Kirk's character more than anyone else - what's with that for a Lesbian film? Of the four primary actors in the movie, it is actually Justin Kirk that stands out. So if you want to watch a mediocre Three's Company or Three's a Crowd or Three's Boring movies, feel free to rent this one. Or also enjoy watching Kirk on Showtime's Weeds. Read More Allegra explores her lesbian curiosity, but can't fully commit, and this summarizes what's wrong with this film. Intending to be a romantic comedy, it never really commits to either. So it ends up enjoyable enough, but nothing special. While the actors do a great job, it's essentially Woody Allen for beginners, but it never really delivers. Pleasant enough if there's nothing else you wanted to see, but don't expect to be wowed. "Kissing Jessica Stein" delivers a similar tale with much more satisfying results. Also, it had a message. The director's commentary showed that the message theme was pretty much an afterthought, but it worked well, nevertheless. There were some submotifs that didn't get played out, but were nevertheless interesting, like the character's comments on the surface morality of Don Giovanni's conclusion.
Many a movie spoils itself by taking its own message too seriously. This movie did not. It should be accepted pretty much at face value. It's message is that your actions affect other people, even when you are just drifting through life. But, take it or leave it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Although this movie did have its problems, I thought it was enjoyable. Elizabeth Reaser is excellent as the neurotic verbose Allegra, and Justin Kirk should seriously be more famous than he is. I thought the ending was cliche and unsatisfactory but the journey the film takes you on is original and endearing. Considering that this film was made in 18 days...I think it's better than alot of other films that were filmed in 6 months. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Neurotic, hyperactive, snooty, self-indulgent, self-centered, egomaniacal, professionals in New York with with too large a vocabulary and too many insignificant problems. But wait, they're lesbians and kinda good looking. It can't be a Woody Allen picture. Just a cheap knockoff, I mean homage. If you're in the right mood, I suppose you can get into it. Like a sucker, I sat there and watched as the movie worked its way to the beginning (it kinda starts the story near the end then goes back 3 months). But once it was all said and done, it kind of promised more than it delivered. The other review is right; Gray Matters is much funnier. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
