Sleeper Cell [TV Series] (2005)
Member Rating:
Debuting December 4, 2005 on the Showtime network, the weekly, hour-long drama Sleeper Cell was at base an I Led Three Lives for the post-9/11 era, albeit with a bit more depth in, and understanding of, the villainous characters. In the opening episode, a disgruntled Muslim ex-convict named Darwyn Al-Sayeed (Michal Ealy) was recruited into a terrorist sleeper cell based in Los Angeles and headed by the fanatical Faris Al-Farik (Oded Eher). In order to best follow out his plans of sabotage and destruction in the US, Al-Farik posed as a Jewish-American named Yossi, who ironically worked for a security company. Similarly, the other members of the cell held down legitimate jobs while carrying out their dirty work--and, as if to put the lie to the assumption that terrorism has but one face, the others were drawn from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds. Blue-eyed, blonde-haired All-American boy Tommy Emerson (Blake Shields) was the privileged son of liberal activists; Frenchman Christian Aumont (Alex Nesic), a former Skinhead and National Front member, led an outwardly respectable life as a suburban husband and father; and Al-Farik's Bosnian right-hand man Ilija (Henri Lubatti),who had witnessed the slaughter of his family by Orthodox Serbs, hid his terrorist activites behind the façade of a high-school science teacher. What none of the cell members realized was that Darwyn Al-Sayeed was likewise a "poser": He was actually an undercover FBI agent, assigned to infiltrate Al-Farik's cell and covertly thwart his various sinister schemes against national security. Only his FBI supervisor Rayl Fuller (James Legros) was aware of Darwyn's dual identity; others, including Darwyn's single-mom sweetheart Gayle Bishop (Melissa Sagemiller), had no idea of his actual mission. In keeping with pay-cable tradition, Sleeper Cell was infinitely more profane and violent than standard over-the-air action fare. And in many ways, the series was also infinitely superior to its non-pay cable competition. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

truly enjoyed the plot, acting and multi-layered characters... the portrayal of whites, blacks and euros as muslims is fresh and believable... wish everyone could remember that most of us are born into our religion...

I loved it! I love "24" too, but "Sleeper Cell" is more believable. It did start off a little slow, so if you didn't get past the first 3 episodes then you really missed out! The language and profanity are not that bad; it's to be expected of a "pay-cable" show. The plot lines are realistic. The way the characters' stories are told leaves you wanting to get right to the next episode.

I loved this series. Watched it the first time it was on Showtime and renting it agian now. It shows that muslims are what Darwyn is. Peaceful. Great show, loved it throughly, plat, actors, everything.

A little rough on the edges, particularly with sex and language, but the plot is FAR MORE believable and realistic than 24. The "target" of season 1 is reasonable, and the "method of delivery" is much more plausible than anything seen in 24. I love 24, but get frustrated so many times with the "whatever can go wrong does" and the seeming ineptitude of CTU. This production, with the methods that the FBI uses to catch the bad guys, just felt more real. I will continue to watch 24, and when that is over, will watch season 2 of Sleeper Cell.

Too slow for me, wish it would have moved along, this is not better than 24 can't compare the two, not a family show, I did not see the 2nd disc, this did not hold my attention, I felt Oded Eher should have had the lead role, you really are shown some of the dark sides of the world ,although this its not really entertainment it shows that all people of religions are not any different than you and I, your faith doesn't make you a bad person, all people can be evil inside no matter who you are. It didn't hold my interest so I am not watching the rest of the discs'.

Although they didn't rate the DVD, consider it to be an 'R' for nudity. If you're looking for a family TV series, you best look somewhere else.

Normally, I am very strict about my ratings. However, after I was so deceived by the tagline on the cover which reads "better than 24" I had to make this exception. This is NOT, repeat NOT better than 24!! First of all, it's excruciatingly boring. For them to even compare it to 24 is one thing, but to claim that it's better! That is sinful, evil even. Perhaps it's some sort of symbolism to the sinful, evil deception associated with muslim terrorists? Nah, they're not that smart!

I watched the 1st 3 episodes and its absolutely boring. DVD cover says its better than 24. which is just not true.

Wouldn't even bother with the other two, the first was bad enough. It tries to make you believe there are "peaceful" muslims and only a few bad guys. Hello! Who do you think is funding the so called bad guys.....the "peaceful" muslims. The rest of the movie was nothing but sex and strip clubs. BIG waste of an hour of my life!!
