The Kukum (2005)
Member Rating:
The first film from Kosovo since the war in 1999 and the first film from director Isa Qosja in seventeen years, this lyrical yet darkly comic drama follows three former mental hospital patients as they drift through a battle-scarred Kosovo on an eye-opening journey is self discovery. The year is 1999. The UN has arrived in Kosovo, liberating Kukumi, Mara, and Hasan from the mental institution where all three have lived for as long as they can remember. Uncertain of how to handle their newfound freedom, the trio wanders the postwar landscape like lost children until they arrive at the village where Hasan's brother lives. Unfortunately the locals are less than accommodating, prompting the trio to set up house in an abandoned building in a last-ditch attempt to regain some sense of normalcy in their fractured lives. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
