production values good on this recording. Regarding the work: repays patience & contemplation. Man's relationship to God; narcissism & romantic love; love, fear, desire & death; polar tensions between man/woman, East/West, ideal/real, image/reflection, Self/Other. Sellars & Saariaho have created a gem that deserves its place in opera's canon -- a world afloat without bridges, art is the ferrier in a watery dreamscape of the collective unconscious -- a work that is, finally, brilliant.
