Bear witness to the birth of the most horrifying legend in the history of cinema as director Jonathan Liebesman explores the nightmarish origins of the psychotic Hewitt family in this sequel to director Marcus Nispel's 2003 hit The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The year is 1969, and despite the fact that the Vietnam War is raging halfway across the globe, all is ominously quiet on the back roads of America. Eighteen-year-old Dean Hill (Taylor Handley) has just received his draft notice, and his older brother, Eric (Matthew Bomer), is determined to watch out for his younger sibling by ensuring that Dean enroll in the Marine Corps rather than risking his luck at the local induction center. Dean has other plans, though, and as soon as the pair and their girlfriends, Bailey (Diora Baird) and Chrissie (Jordana Brewster), return from their final fling in sunny Texas, he plans to confront his brother with the prospect of dodging the draft. When an unsettling encounter with malevolent bikers Holden (Lee Tergesen) and Alex (Cyia Batten) results in a serious car accident in which Chrissie is thrown from the vehicle, the arrival of Sheriff Hoyt (R. Lee Ermey) at first appears to be a moment of divine intervention. However, when Sheriff Hoyt murders thieving Alex in cold blood and then shepherds her friends into the back of his police cruiser as Chrissie watches from the brush, their momentary reprieve soon gives way to an unimaginable terror. As Hoyt transports her ailing friends to the Hewitt home, where a childlike man named Thomas is currently undergoing the transformation into cannibalistic madman Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski), a desperate Chrissie attempts to enlist the aid of Holden in rescuing her friends from a fate worse than death. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I am a horror fanatic!! This movie was great. It delivers the same result from the last Texas Chainsaw Massacre, maybe even more. So graphic. I loved it. Rent this movie, you will not be disappointed.

This movie makes the first Texas Chainsaw massacre more understandable about certain events like how that one guy ended up with no legs and such like that. And finally I know that that sheriff really wasn't "THE SHERIFF" afterall!

The movie was average. It does answer some early questions about the series. Only true tcm fans will enjoy it.

This movie does what most new-wave horror films tend to do… less scare more gore. Some people like that; I find it getting really old, really quick. The film wasn’t awful but it wasn’t good either. My biggest problem with this prequel is that it’s a prequel. You see the same characters that were in the 2003 remake and you know none of them are going to die. It spoiled the suspense and the very important “chance of survival” element.

Pretty good movie. Definitely gory, not too scary. I enjoy prequels and how they show the events that led up to what you saw in the first movie: how the old dude lost his legs, how Hoyt became sheriff, and how Leatherface developed his love of the chainsaw. Good looking, reasonably talented cast, especially Jordana Brewster.

This movie was graphic, deranged and G O R Y, BUT, it was perfect. They answered SO many things to all TCM fans. I cant say a bad thing about the characters, actors, directing or story. Sure, its sick and maybe some people cant handle that, but I see no flaw in this film what so ever.

Plenty of gore and violence for those fans. Emery shows why he is in high demand for roles. Suspense is lacking though.

This was a good movie. I love horror movies and this was pretty good. I thought there should of been more gore though.

It seemed that most of the movie focused on the sheriff guy and seemed to portray him as rational. They could have went for mentally deranged and focused more on leatherface and they would have been good to go.

This edition was great! One of the best ones yet!Goes back and shows leather face a little more in his youth which was nice to see for a change. Mostly about him and the sheriff and their relationship and killing beginning. Drill sergant is a perfect sheriff! Better than dennis hopper ever dreamed of being! Must rent!

First off i better tell you that this is goriest main public movie then any other movie i have seen. But hell its good. Besides the gore fest, you get a decent beginning story, that sets up the movie really good later. More Chainsaw than the one a couple of years ago also. Non-stop gore in this one.

Although a marked improvement from the sorry 2003 remake, "Beginning" still disappoints. Considering two of the main characters are headed to Vietnam suggests that the filmakers understood the subtext of Tobe Hooper's original. Sadly, the plot is mostly recycled elements from the original & remake, particularly the final act. Liebesman is wise not to fully reveal Leatherface unmasked, however, he is given a stereotypical serial-killer backstory, his skin-mask fetish reduced to the less distrurbing reason of hiding facial deformities a la Jason. Bryniarski is intimidating, but outside of R. Lee Ermey's twisted drill sgt...uh, sheriff..., the rest of the clan remains uninteresting. Fans of KNB will love their effects in this one. If you can't handle gore, don't rent a film with the words "chainsaw" & "massacre" in it's title. Finally, I recommend instead the new Ultimate Edition of the1974 classic. It's never looked better, and has great special features. That is the true 'beginning.'

Enought back story to call the movie The Beginning. But the rest of the movie is a z grade remake of a remake.
